Hi guys, I am new to this forum and hope you can help. I am looking for as much advice as possible to help me break into the conservation world. I am currently in my second year of obtaining my Nat. Diploma in Nature Conservation. I am 26 and frustrated to the core. I have been doing a deskjob for a couple of years now and I just cant anymore. I want to seriously start looking for work in the nature world or get out there and start something. Sorry for getting emotional, but everyday i come into work i feel like i want to flee into the mountains and never come back. I am thankfull for the job i have i need it, but no amount of money will make me happy unless im doing what i so badly want to do and that is to be outside... the only thing that keeps me going now is my studies, it gives me some feeling of being closer to nature ... but it just does not quench that thirst.. im worried about what to do afterwards..
I do not have any experience in the field or how it works to get into or apply for jobs, the criteria or what the usual processes are. searching for jobs online doesnt really bring anything up or perhaps i just dont understand it.
Please please could anyone guide me or provide some useful tips. Im literally begging ... :wall:

Hi Eagerbeaver and welcome,

Just keep an eye on your local newspapers. We had 2 adverts in the local northern cape newspaper last week for openings at Augrabies.

Do hope you'll be successful......

Unfortunately, I cannot help you with a job but I share your feelings about being confined to an office. I had an option to move to a bigger and better office, but declined it because it has no view of the garden with the bird feeders outside. All of us long for a job where we can be out in nature for the better part of any day, but few of us get that opportunity. Good luck!

Eagerbeaver, a very warm welcome :D you have arrived with like minded people.

Stick around. At least there will be some outlet for your frustration during the waiting period. You also never know what might pop up.

There is a very active, cheeky thread for students. Its a place to meet young people like yourself who share a passion for nature.

Just never stop dreaming
