We (ex-South Africans) will be flying in to Jhb from Australia and will hire a 4x4. We would like to visit Kgalgadigadi, Etosha and Vic Falls. We will have 21 days. Does any-one have best idea for routing? What is the road like from Kgalgadigadi across Botswanta to Maun?

Looking forward to any replies.

Hi Adhara,

Welcome to the forum. I have been working on a route which will go Vic Fall, Etosha, Kgalgadi. I have read alot of articles about such tours for local magazines and tour operators.

Send me a mail at kmyburgh@vodamail.co.za and i will forward you my route plan with additional info. I don't know how to add images.

I haven't done it myself, but i must admit i want to one day! Maybe you can try it and give me some feedback. :-)

Regards,

You don't say when you are planning the trip for.
We are planning a similar trip for Sep this year and will carry on into Caprivi Strip and Zambia and then back via either Botswana or Zim in late Oct.
We expect this to take about 60 days in all.
As far as I have seen so far there is no direct route from Kgalaghadi to Maun. You probably need to go back into RSA and the re-enter Botswana and travel northwards toward Nata. or maybe, more interesting, via Mata Mata into Namibia and then back through Botswana.

Actually we would like to find someone to tag along with us since it is much safer to do these trips with some comapny than alone, in case of any emergency.

I have traveled some of these routs before and have also done quite a bit of research for our planned trip, so if you need specific advice maybe I can help.

People regularly go from Kgalagadi out of either the Kaa or Mabue gates to Maun. Fuel might be a factor.

I was wanting to do a similar trip for September, but could not find travelling companions.
