Cannot complete calls to SanParks reservation fax

Unread postby normana53 » Fri Dec 25, 2009 1:29 am

I have been attempting to send our reservation confirmation information to the reservation fax number without success for three days now - keep getting busy signal on fax calls. This is from America and we are dialing correctly - have used the fax number successfully in the past. 011-27-123430905

Any ideas? we would like to finalise our holiday plans.

Thanks!

I'll find out for you.
Understandably we might not get a reply before next week or even the end of the Festive Season.

Thank you,

At this late hour, and early Christmas morning, I would not expect any word until at least next week. I appreciate the offer and will await a response. I am not sure if the issue is on SanParks end or with my fax machine. Though I have always been able to ring the Sanparks reservation fax in the past.

Thank you again!

The issue ended up being my fax. I sent from a different fax and was able to get through. The Sanparks reservation staff was unfortunately no help at all. They kept insisting that I only need dial 012 3430905. I kept emailing back that from other countries you have to add country codes, and that from America you have to dial 011 + 27 + the number. The reservations staff emailed back and said no 011 is the code for Johannesburg.

I have usually found the Pretoria staff to be helpful, but obviously they know nothing about using a fax internationally. I hope that someone can let them know the correct procedure, so that others can send faxes.

that from America you have to dial 011 + 27 + the number.

To their defence, if you had told me (in The Netherlands) that I would have frowned as well.
Here we just dial +27 etc., without a code before it.

Only problem is that they don't even seem to know about 27 being the country code for SA. I am hoping to not sound too negative, and would like to just make sure that in the future they can effectively assist foreign guests.

And they do know... as is shown on the Reservations page.

But why - in this day and age - still bother with faxes? Email is so much easier. And with loads of freeware PDF-creators on the internet, you can send encrypted as well. Or grab a screenprint and send as a JPG file. I've been doing that for years and never had any probs.

Enjoy the planning/the trip!

011-27-123430905 - this is the incorrect number
This is for international dialing

+27 12 343 0905

+27 is SA code 12 is Pretoria code 343 0905number

Hi Foxy,

Not trying to beat a dead horse, but when calling South Africa from the USA, you have to dial 011 then 27 then the number. That is required from the US, all international calls from America must start with 011 then country code then telephone number. That was my original point. :D
