An award, for YOU, the SANParks Forumite!!

Unread postby DinkyBird » Thu Jul 18, 2013 3:17 pm

On 25 May 2013, at the annual SANParks Honorary Ranger Indaba (AGM) held in Berg en Dal, Kruger National Park, it was announced that the Region of the Year was .....

And this is exactly how it was displayed on the screen:
Virtual Honorary Rangers

That, SANParks forum members is YOUR region.

Let me, briefly, go back right to the very beginning.

Soon after the inception of the forums end of 2004, the forum community demonstrated that they wanted to make a difference in their beloved SANParks. Groups started to work together to donate items to SANParks and to raise funds for various needs, such as the Nossob Webcam and Cybertrackers. E Business Senior Manager, Nedret Saidova (our Boss) was very strict (and still is!) that all forum fundraising and donations had to be done via the correct channels to ensure that the principles of good corporate governance and accountability were upheld. In January 2008 a meeting between SANParks, the HRs and a forum rep was held and the process of setting up a SANParks Honorary Ranger region to serve the SANParks Forums started. In Feburary 2010 the SANParks VHRs were given the formal go ahead to operate as an HR region and the region was inaugurated at the Indaba in May 2010.

Three years on, we are the proud winners of an award that really puts us on the map and is confirmation that we are an HR region that can hold our heads very high! This honour is awarded to the region that performed best on all four Balanced Score Card objectives over the past year. When the figures were being announced at the Indaba, my thoughts were “wow, we have some work to do to achieve that!” and I cannot repeat the figures for you until I see them in the Minutes as you can imagine excitement ran very high once the region was announced.

This achievement has only been made possible by the efforts of you, the forum member; your project ideas, your donations and your hard work. This award is for everyone who in some way has contributed to a VHR project, from the Cricket events, to the Duke Pack days way back when ... just too many to mention, but a browse through the Wild Projects forum will remind us all of the many wonderful contributions made via this fantastic forum community that have made a difference in our beloved SANParks.

A great big thank you to all the forum members, to the members of the VHRs, past and present who have all worked so hard, to our Boss, Nedret, to SANParks, to the past and present SHR NEC members, the Chair of the NEC Janssen Davies, and to the other SHR regions what were so supportive in getting the VHR region up and going. As our GGGG'ers (Good Morning topic) say *clink - here is to you all!

There is more reason to celebrate too! Special congratulations to one of the SANParks VHR members, Louis Lemmer, for his election to the position of Deputy Chairman of the SHR NEC. Lets have another *clink for Louis!

On the afternoon of the 25th of May I got a message on my phone from DB:
"Jen, guess who's region of the year."
:hmz: That's a broad question I thought and replied "Joburg?" "Westrand?", "Lowveld?", in a joking way I asked "Virtual?????"
Just then my phone rang and I can still hear DB saying, "Yes Jen, Virtual, we took region of the year".

At first I thought she was pulling my leg  then slowly it started sinking in, our baby region, the one we hoped would one day take such an award, did it after only three short years and we set the benchmark high!

DB is so right with the heading of this topic, this is YOUR award! YOURS like in every member of this forum.
We, the RMC and the members of the Virtual region would be nowhere without you all.
Thank you for your continued support!

Be proud of it, you guys made it happen! :)

:gflower: to each and every one. This is so well deserved and it has taken courage and perseverance to keep things going.

As a newbie HR, I hope to be able to honor what has been started by a brilliant team.

:gflower: Well done! We, the "normal" members, salute a strong VHR leadership - without which, the Virtual region would not have achieved this award
