Hello Forumites

We are going to KNP for the Easter Holidays and have an idea to raise money for SANParks.

We all seek that rare sighting and we thought why not put out a challenge and if we see one of these animals we make a donation. Forumites willing to do so pledge the same amount. In this way we collect a sum of money but it does not end there. On our return from KNP another forumite going to KNP takes over, and this is totally voluntary, and again pledges are made. So, this is a perpetual fundraiser and we have some fun along the way in seeking those rare sightings.

A photo = sighting and at the end of a trip money is collected and deposited into an account to be opened for this fundraising by the Virtual Honorary Rangers Region or a project list on this website for payment via GivenGain.

Here is the list with the amount to be donated
Lion - R10
Cheetah - R20
Leopard - R20
Wild dogs - R30
Sable Antelope - R30
Black Rhino - R30
Caracal - R40
Serval - R40
Aardwolf - R50
Aardvark - R50
Pangolin - R50
Roan Antelope - R50
African Rock Python - R50
Racket Tailed Roller - R50
Bohms’ Spinetail - R50
Honey Badger - R50
Brown Hyena - R100 (are there any in KNP????)
Pel’s Fishing Owl - R100

Yeah, I have some animals on the list (lions) that are not all that rare but the idea is to raise some funds and I do not want to set myself up for failure

We have tried to include mammals, birds and reptiles, but we can work on the list together come up with a list. Do not want too much on the list and trying to keep amounts low considering the present economic climate.

Say we see a honey badger and 9 people have pledged amounts for our trip, then we have raised R50 x 10 = R500 for the project.

We also suggest a prize for the trip that raises the most funds and for the most rare sighting - to be decided by vote.

Look forward to your genorosity and hope we can make this work.

Kind Regards
Sharifa and Duke.

I think this is a great idea.

The beauty of your suggestion is that it can be perpetual and it does not need to be limited to only one forumite at any one time - there can be multiple visitors doing their own list.

I will participate with my visits this year. 10-18 March and again from 9 - 15 June.

Maybe we can add Saddle Billed Stork for R30.

Bigman

BB only for a good course dear to all of us. What chance of seeing all animals on the list in a trip. That is why I got lions on the list
So you only in for R10

But maybe what you say can be considered e.g. if you go on a trip I could say I will donate the amount for a leopard and a wild dog for your trip.

For our trip we will donate the amounts shown - so what can I put you down for

Great idea Sharifa and Duke. Dreamer and I did something similar on our trip to KTP in April last year.

So if you see a caracal I will donate R40 as well
Is that how it works ???

Yes, but why choose a Caracal

Why not something that we might actually see  OK, we will find a caracal for that R40

Because she's not called lion or elephant

On my last trip I saw about 40 lions, 9 leopards, 24 wild dogs and a serval. That would have cost me a pretty penny.

Hey BB it would have cost you R100 and only if you wanted to take part. The idea is not to get anybody skint like you said and I did mention the difficult economic times.

What we wre thinking of is a list of rare sightings as compiled but this can be amended to a list of say 20 animals.

As it stands now there is not much chance of seeing all the animals on the list on a trip. Say we see lions, cheetah and wild dogs on our trip, that would be R60 we would donate. If 9 other people have pledged to donate than we looking at a total 10 people x R60. So, a collection of R600 for the prject - a tidy sum but not too much for an indivudual. The idea is to make it affordable.

Hope I have explained it but all suggestions welcome to get something workable going.

Yep. I agree because I once saw (on the S100 of all places) 22 lions in a pride. That would make you a bit skint :)
