Dreamer - thanks  - I am also thrilled we as Forumites can make a difference for the park and the people we love so much !

lionspoon - many thanks - that will be GREAT - anything small and light like scarves, gloves, beanies etc will be useful and hopefully won't take too much space and weight

   Well done Scouter! I will also prepare a box and let you have it soon.
A few years back a friend and I did a small collection of children's clothing for the Welkom community, and when the delivery was made, it was received with much appreciation and enthusiasm, so making this an ongoing project is absolutely fantastic!

Forumites Rock!

What a fantastic initiative! Limited in how much we can fit in our luggage from Australia but already had a couple of spare beanies packed. Will get busy with the knitting needles before we leave home next Tuesday bring as much as we can when we visit KTP in late July. We can probably also leave behind some of our warm clothing as we will go to warmer areas of South Africa after KTP.

Well....I don’t know what to say but YOU FORUMITES ROCK!!!

To see how many people are interested in the wellbeing of those who are not as privileged as us to have warm blankets etc. There are so many families in Welkom who doesn’t even have electricity but still they make it through the winters and the donations from your side will definitely make a difference in so many people’s life and also the children.

We will take plenty pictures when we hand the donatiopns out, it would be great to even have some of the mites present when we do.

THANKS AGAIN FORUMITES !!

Jannie

Thanks wanderw - I know there will be folk going up all the time and I'm sure I can twist their arms to put a box in their cars for us

majura - - thank you SO much - anything small like beanies will be great !! Have also hauled the needles and wool out and am knitting scarves frantically

Jonkers  - thank you too - any chance you might have a teeny bit of space in your car when you go up next week ? Seems like there might be a few more things to take up from the CT 'mites again - I have just dropped off a box in Stellenbosch for Madach to take with him when he goes ....

Jannie - its our absolute PLEASURE  So happy its a hit ....

Great initiative and great response! I have a few handknitted beanies that I can bring with in September (to be added to a CT delivery as I won't be heading to KTP this year :( ) and perhaps can also knit up a scarf or two from my collection of "leftover" yarn.

Yep why not? I learned the last years living in South Africa that people here 'maak n plan' and 'help mekaar' are normal. When I needed help totally strangers stood by me for hours so if I can do something for someone else it will be my pleasure.
Rather two smaller than one big because I do want to keep the visibility
I'll leave the 20st via Karoo Mokala and Upington and will be in 2R on the 25th
If you don't mind to drive to Stellenbosch again it's fine with me
I'll PM you address and phone

Hi Scouter,

I mentioned your appeal to old Granny Barcud and she got her knitting needles out.

Will these be ok?

Image

I know what she is like once those weapons of hers are drawn, so there may be one or two more in the coming months

I can either post them once she has a few (someone will have to PM me an address to send them to) or I can bring them with me in Nov?

Can e-mail anyone else with similar Ninja knitting skills instructions to build if they pm me their e-mail address.

Barcud - oh my goodness - they are absolutely DELIGHTFUL   - Please thank Granny Barcud SO VERY MUCH - they couldn't be any more perfect with those earflaps to keep the cold out! I know they are going to be a huge hit !

It would be wonderful if she would knit some more for us - you could keep them till you come out in November - that would be fine as I'm not sure how reliable our rotten Post office is and they might get re-directed or "misplaced" and that would be devastating .....

I know its a bit late in our winter already to try and get this project up and running full steam but if we can keep this up as an ongoing project then any time of the year will be fine to bring stuff out .

I'm afraid my knitting skills are rather pedestrian compared to Granny Barcuds and will stretch mainly to scarves which I am doing in front of the TV in the evenings  but I hope someone will take you up on your very kind offer

Please thank Granny B very much - she's a STAR

Anybody in Pretoria area that wants to help can PM me and we can arrange the detail. Although I am only going in Nov I am sure any help will appreciated, even if if is for the next winter (or any other clothing for that matter)

@ Scouter

Can you pm me with the name of the chain store where I can buy the blankets. We will squeeze as many small items into our luggage as possible but will have some spare room in the car once we arrive in Johannesburg.
