Looking at Imberbe's Link something just crossed my mind.

Didn't a few forum members want to do a walk or something to raise funds for this very topic.

But we were shot down. and to think all the publicity they would have brought to the anti poaching plight if it wasn't canned by "the powers that be".

would have been interesting

Joekin, yes, some forum members did want to do a walk through the park. The idea was not "shot down" - we have all the correspondance on record and here, for eg, is one reply received from Kruger:

Hi Colleagues

Although it is a beautifully written proposal and I applaud those responsible for their efforts, KNP has never allowed such a thing before. The last applicant was Michelle Garsforth-Venter (whose proposal was similar, only she guaranteed coverage on her programme) and not even she could get it right, and there were many who tried before Michelle tried.

Kind regards

Raymond Travers

A walk through the park is not something that has ever been allowed to happen in the park for obvious reasons.

At least two alternatives were offered to the guys; one by the Kruger people and HRs called Benefits Beyond Boundaries which would have entailed a walk outside the park along the western boundary and meant good PR with the communities living long side the park, and the other suggestion was to walk from Kruger to Mapungbwe. If the guys had shown interest in either of these, I agree a lot of publicity and funds would have been generated
