Hi Gandalf! :yaya:

Warm welcome to the forum! :D

Bring yourself, SO, a choppie to braai (unless you are a vegetarian like DeeBee  ) and a cooler box with your cold ones, cutlery and plates, glasses and goodies and two chairs.
Have I forgotten anything Mr. Chair?

See you there! Image

Hilda, don't you sleep dear?

Hi JenB, you are very observant! I'm not the best sleeper in town though. The slightest noise wakes me up, and then I cannot sleep again. Any possible burglars will be surprised when they try to get into our house in the middle of the night!

Directions

There will be those who are travelling on a broomstick Image You do NOT need to read these directions. Just fly directly to Rietvlei, and do not pass go

But for those of us coming by car, and needing directions Image

Quote:
Directions:There are a few ways to get to the N1 Danie Joubert freeway (Centurion area)

Drive N1 North (Ben Schoeman )Take off ramp N1 Polokwane.

Or
Take a Route to get you on the N14. Go straight after you crossed the N1 towards Centurion / Polokwane

On the N1 (Danie Joubert freeway – Centurion area)
• Then go straight for about 8 km... Past John Voster Ave and Botha ave. take R21 south (O.R. Tambo) off Ramp Keep south.

• The first off ramp after you turned on the R21 is: Nellmapius Dr (M31) take this off ramp.

• At the Robot turn left. At the next robot (garage on your left hand side) turn right towards Olifantsfontein and the St Georges Hotel. Drive for 1,5 km, crossing the Sesmylspruit.

• The first road after the Sesmylspruit, turn left. On the left is a sign indicating RIETVLEI NATURE RESERVE, turn left and follow the road up the hill to the main gate. Follow turns, (Rietvlei Heights on your left). Drive past the stone entrance (there is a boom) until you get to the offices and entrance gate. This is where you will pay entrance fees…

Or

From OR Tambo airport:
Take the off ramp on the R21: Nellmapius Dr (M31)
• At the Robot turn right. At the next robot (garage on your left hand side) turn right towards Olifantsfontein and the St Georges Hotel. Drive for 1,5 km, crossing the Sesmylspruit.

Follow turns, (Rietvlei Heights on your left). Drive through the stone entrance (there is a boom) until you get to the offices and entrance gate. This is where you will pay entrance fees…

You only pay if you going to take a game drive  No entrance fee if you are just coming to the lapa

Next Saturday Boorgatspook!

WOW!!!! What a lot has happened in the last week or so …

So many people planning on being there next Saturday and so much generosity too with regard to bringing stuff along.

Gee Waterbuck!!! Thanks for offering to bring all the stuff for the fire … I’m sure I will be the one hogging all the heat as I hate the cold so I’ll also bring some wood! With regard to firelighters, I learnt THE MOST FANTASTIC TIP whilst in the park this time and will NEVER be buying firelighters again. When you have a cup of tea, instead of throwing out your used teabag, keep it! Stick your used teabags in the sun to dry out then put them in a large Ricoffy pot (or other large container). When your container is full of teabags, add about quarter of a bottle of paraffin, give it a good shake, and VOILA!!! Instant firelighters!!!

Waterbuck, the trip being organised by Birdlife Northern Gauteng sounds interesting … unfortunately I won’t be able to go to this as I’m busy on Saturday morning but would definitely be interested in any future outings … we can talk about it at Rietvlei.

Hilda, how very generous of you and Barry to offer to bring all the goodies to go with our braai …. are you sure??? I see Mel has offered to bring her “secret salad”, JenB has offered to bring a “secret pudding”, and I was planning on making a tuna pasta salad. I’m sure nothing will go to waste though … if we have an afternoon braai, I’m sure those staying on later will snack on the leftovers!

As for “plan of attack”, official start time, etc, etc, I guess this depends on what time everyone is planning on arriving. I’m sure there will be some who are there when Rietvlei opens – I know VVV mentioned getting there early and meeting for breakfast at the coffee shop … I won’t get there around midday so propose VVV takes over Chairmanship of the morning’s activities!!!

With regards to the lapa, has it been booked? We can all chip in to the cost of this - please can VVV/Mads advise on this . Also, from what time will we be able to use the lapa?

I think it’s a good idea for us to fly our YRs – there are a few newbies and I’m sure not everyone will know each other!

As for where to meet … as I said before, I’ll leave the morning arrangements to VVV or someone else who’s going to be there early.

I should be there around midday-ish … how about early afternoon drinkies at the picnic spot?

I hope you all have a good week and really look forward to meeting up on Saturday!
