WOW!!!! What a lot has happened in the last week or so …
So many people planning on being there next Saturday and so much generosity too with regard to bringing stuff along.
Gee Waterbuck!!! Thanks for offering to bring all the stuff for the fire … I’m sure I will be the one hogging all the heat as I hate the cold so I’ll also bring some wood! With regard to firelighters, I learnt THE MOST FANTASTIC TIP whilst in the park this time and will NEVER be buying firelighters again. When you have a cup of tea, instead of throwing out your used teabag, keep it! Stick your used teabags in the sun to dry out then put them in a large Ricoffy pot (or other large container). When your container is full of teabags, add about quarter of a bottle of paraffin, give it a good shake, and VOILA!!! Instant firelighters!!!
Waterbuck, the trip being organised by Birdlife Northern Gauteng sounds interesting … unfortunately I won’t be able to go to this as I’m busy on Saturday morning but would definitely be interested in any future outings … we can talk about it at Rietvlei.
Hilda, how very generous of you and Barry to offer to bring all the goodies to go with our braai …. are you sure??? I see Mel has offered to bring her “secret salad”, JenB has offered to bring a “secret pudding”, and I was planning on making a tuna pasta salad. I’m sure nothing will go to waste though … if we have an afternoon braai, I’m sure those staying on later will snack on the leftovers!
As for “plan of attack”, official start time, etc, etc, I guess this depends on what time everyone is planning on arriving. I’m sure there will be some who are there when Rietvlei opens – I know VVV mentioned getting there early and meeting for breakfast at the coffee shop … I won’t get there around midday so propose VVV takes over Chairmanship of the morning’s activities!!!
With regards to the lapa, has it been booked? We can all chip in to the cost of this - please can VVV/Mads advise on this . Also, from what time will we be able to use the lapa?
I think it’s a good idea for us to fly our YRs – there are a few newbies and I’m sure not everyone will know each other!
As for where to meet … as I said before, I’ll leave the morning arrangements to VVV or someone else who’s going to be there early.
I should be there around midday-ish … how about early afternoon drinkies at the picnic spot?
