Just read the latest media release on the homepage. All bush camps are open and all gravel roads with the exception of the S64 is open.
Very happy as I will be in the park in two days time.

Does that mean the road crossing the Biyamiti weir is also open? From which we can infer that the weir survived, and the pics floating around the web are old?

I really hope so!

Kruger National Park back to normal after floods

Date: 19th March 2014

The Kruger National Park (KNP), like most of the Mpumalanga Province, experienced a lot of rain in the past two weeks which resulted in the facilities being closed for safety reasons, when rivers started overflowing and dams got filled to capacity.

Acting Head of Communications, Reynold Thakhuli said all facilities that had been closed were now operational, except the S64 road from Punda Maria to Thulamela in the north of the park, the Wolhuter Trails camp and the Boesman Trails camp. “All the bush camps, walking trails, picnic spots and gravel roads are deemed safe enough to be used by our clients. We are happy to be able to welcome them back “said Thakhuli.

The reopened bush camps are Talamati, Biyamiti, Sirheni, Shimuwini, Balule and Bateleur. The trails camps are Olifants and Nyalalaland.

All gravel roads in the KNP have been deemed safe and have also been reopened. All the clients who had cancellations need to reconfirm with our Reservations department on reservations@sanparks.org or 012 428 9111.

A lot depends on my fellow companions Dr Phil, but I sure hope everyone is ready to go when the gates open.

JnP - what we saw of the Balule bridge a couple of weeks ago, they still need to repair the damage from a year ago. I daresay with the strong flowing river this is a difficult task, and maybe they will be able to get to it during winter if the river level drops. But I can say for certain that now, the next few weeks, it will not be usable.

Not sure about the weir.

over the week end I saw a couple pics of the bridge on the S25 over the Biyamiti and the weir. Neither looked passable, there is no mention of either on the updates. I just wanted to know if CB is accessible from Malelane using the s25 and if the Weir is open?

The Balule low water bridge was damaged in Jan 2012 and after long delays work started too late and was not completed by Dec 2012. No real damaged happened during 2013, but completion was again delayed in 2013 and by now still not completed. The section than needs further repair is about 1/10 of the total bridge.

Also wonder about the Biyamiti weir and S25, because I'll be very surprised if these two bridges were fixed in record time compare to previous records that took more than 8 months. When we visited Biyamiti in Sept 2012 the bridge just opened after the floods in Jan 2012.
