Granny I presume you are referring to booking accommodation, the rule is:
All booking requests are only accepted 11 months or less in advance.
Bookings for the 11th month are opened on the 1st working day of each new month.

I know that Elsa, that's why I was asking. Squirrel81 said that they "Pre booked" for Feb 15 and I was wondering how that was possible?

One can buy Pap en Wors, Boerewors, tea and coffee, biscuits and a selection of pies, sandwiches and rolls/pre prepared hamburgers from the shop here at Lower Sabie. The shop is well stocked and open until 8pm each evening.

We are international visitors from Europe and have a trip planned through KNP in a few weeks and heard that the opneing of the new franchise restaurants would be delayed at Lower Sabie. Can someone give me the current status and planning?
The same goes for Satara.

I don't know about how far the renovations are, but we also come from Europe and find we can buy everything we need in the shop and love braiing under the African stars and listening to the sounds of the camp.

If the restaurant and cafés aren't open when you go, you'll still have a wonderful time!

:)

They sell Boerierolls and Pap and sheba at all the camps where the restaurants are closed. Also coffee and tea.

Shops are well-stocked as long as you remember you are in a Park - they don't have the means to provide fresh and large choice in meat. If you keep that in mind, you will find a good piece of steak, wors, sosasties and lamb to braai.

We chose for Skottelbrekkies instead of fast food again, for the first time in many years. Loved it and was surprised to see a skottel still only costs R19. A bargain if you don't have to worry about cleaning and refilling.

All picnic spots we stopped at had a boiling kettle on somewhere for coffee and tea.

The restaurant at Olifants is still operating (the old operator). They have delayed their closing. Olifants reception area is also being refurbished, at the moment the reception is housed in a little wooden house; and so are many of the units in the camp. We are lucky to be staying in a newly renovated unit - all very nice, and 'new' .

Satara's cloakrooms next to the reception/restaurant area are getting a makeover too, not only the restaurant. One can sit at tables at the day visitors area and order boerewors rolls or pap en wors, and some drinks. Or buy at the shop - sandwiches, lovely muffins, pies, hamburgers (to heat in a microwave) .

We were there on Monday 17 February and it was definitely closed... :?

We wanted to treat our guests to a lunch on the deck. No tables, zilch, nothing. We walked inside the restaurant building to show them the view anyway and a staff member came over to inform us that we could get lunch at Letaba. They were busy setting up the Boerieroll and Pap and Sheba tables next to the shop entrance.

Didn't bother us, we simply made a skottelbrekkie at Timbavati Picnic spot.

And what a beuatiful deck that was; nothing like a hearty meal as the sun set over the river. Let's hope the replacements open soon.

While on holiday in December 2014, we were in Olifants camp (booking in to Balule) and decided to try the restaurant, my daughter (an expert in the field of "The Cheesburger") told us that the cheeseburger she had at Olifants was the best burger that she has eaten in all her 17 years on this planet and when we were staying in Berg en Dal we had breakfast at the restaurant on 01 January 2014. The service was top class, the waitress got the order right the first time, the food was presented unlike I have ever seen, the food was fresh and tasty and was not over priced at all, we were so impressed that on our way out of the park from Pretoriuskop we decided to go to Berg en Dal for breakfast instead of the Wimpy along the way home.

TD, must say I enjoyed my veggie burger there (Olifants) yesterday!

OWN, I just said to SO as we saw the sun setting tonight, that tomorrow I invite him for supper on the deck. Will take a pic for you. It has been so cloudy here only clearing later this afternoon.

GP, yes they did close for a few days but due to delays with the refurnishing team at LS, they are now still operating the restaurant here at Olifants. (until further notice)
