Yes, they must have the chance. And from what others are saying, it's gonna have to be plenty terrible to be worse than what is there currently. But if I dont like the offering outside of the Park, I'm certainly not going to get all dewy eyed about it when it is in the Park hey. And say what you want and say what you will, the introduction of fast food outlet is just part of a progression to what, you can just imagine. And come to think of it, it's weird. Maybe good weird and maybe not so good weird. Who knows? And maybe this December I'll go and have a waffle, syrup and snow freez just to long back for home in Joburg.

I really don't care what the name of the restaurant is, as long as I can get decent food which has not been available for a long time
These restaurants can only be an improvement

It's very obvious that pleasing all of the people all of the time is a lost cause given the mixed responses to this topic, quite similar to resurrecting the dodo.

It's been said here a few times, and all have agreed without exception, that giving SANParks a chance is the way to go. However, even though the implementation of this still has a number of months to go with none of us knowing what the end result is going to look like we insist on dissecting and over-analyzing every single aspect of what could be, down to irrelevant minutiae. This ends up in being just so much noise.

I'm one of those who fondly remember the drumbeat announcing dinner, followed by truly good food and magnificent ambience. We also all agree that for the last number of years that what the restaurant/picnic areas have called food and/or service has fallen extremely short of the mark for almost everyone. Why then, when a truly herculean effort is made to improve this vital aspect of the experience, nay-sayers arrive as if summoned from the past?

We should really be supporting, and not terminally criticizing something which may well be an injection of much needed revenue. If this turns out to not be the "right thing", as always our Parks will ensure that it either adapts, or leaves altogether.

Pleasing all of the people all of the time is an impossible task, but I truly hope some middle ground can be reached in each and every one of our minds, and that we can actually join together to make this better instead of trying to break down everything that we stand for or are trying to achieve. Constructive criticism is fine when it's actually constructive and preferably accompanied by a well thought out suggestion or solution, but just bitching for the sake of it does none of us any favours at all.

As the eloquent presentation by porridge points out, there is some vehement criticism. For myself, I am skeptical but not decided. So, if a Wimpy is going to look different in KNP from what it looks like in JHB or PTA, then that's groovy I suppose. If a Wimpy burger is going to be compiled differently in KNP from the way it is in PTA or JHB then that is even groovier. If it is going to be the same burger then I will eat it with the same long teeth as I do outside of KNP.

But for goodness sake! I've joined a public forum where opinions are expressed. I'm not saying STOP dont do it! I'm expressing a few reservations that I have on the matter. And although the power of prophesy isnt required to forecast future developments, I'm predicting that the follow ons are likely to be pretty significant and possibly shocking. Could be that stopping over at at Nkuhlu could be just like driving into the Milly's turnoff. Maybe not.

But ja, give them a chance. And at the same time allow people to be apprehensive. And that is what everybody is I think.

Reservations are definitely permitted, preferably well before the time so that you get the cottage/hut/camp site that you want

Seriously though, moobox, I'm definitely not trying to quelch any doubts that you may have, or even trying to make people believe that what I have to say is gospel. I honestly think that the way we express our doubts/beliefs can be done in a more positive way though. So M&B, Wimpy and the Cattle baron are invading our sanctum. Would you rather keep the Hout Piesang?

This opens an entirely new argument up, for instance "Are they still going to be the same people that were Piesanged before?" or " How do we know if they are going to be any better?" The simple answer is, we don't. As I said, if they are still no good, we can get together and make a change.

Makes you wonder why then "the apprehensive" are labelled "negative" at every turn?

If the Kruger and namely Skakusa turn into a strip mall, well it will be sad but there are plenty of other parks in other provinces to go to. Not so. Maybe the animals can follow suit after filling in a questioner, they are the wild card after all.

I think it is a terrible idea, the Park is becomming FAR too commercialised for my liking! I have been going to the park for many years, and I just cant stand to see how it has become. I cringe at the thought of how it will be when my children grow up and want to take their kids there one day. Whats next??? A good few department stores so we can go clothes shopping on a rainy day? :wall:

My dear fellow forumites.

Let's be most concerned about what happens OUTIDE camp gates, especially commercialising.

I fail to see how the appointed franchisees can be worse than the situation of the immediate past that we/you have all been moaning about. Also, us locals know what to expect and can choose to patronise or not.

The 3 (M&B, Wimpy and CB) all provide excellent fare according to their markets outside the park. Why won't this happen inside?

Well, if they implement BBEEE (or whatever it is now) without any integrity and employ locals who just want a job, instead of screening and employing those who are service oriented as well as have an affinity for the park they will be privileged to work in.

And if their supply trucks are given 'deadlines' to deliver and race around like those of the rest.

And if the packaging and waste is not controlled.

Those of us who grew up to the sound of the drum to herald the start of dinner - and what stops a manager with some presence of the place from doing it now? - cannot hanker to the past. At least this seems a much better option than the immediate past.

Let's give it a positive try.
