It will be nice to see the people at the gates in Sanparks uniform :D

I was thinking exactly the same :D it makes such a difference. Like it used to be in fact. Now we can also tell who is who in the coffee pot.

This is good news wonder if these newbies have done security work before, one month is very short for the whole process from pre-selection to in the field I must say? Very intense.

Good work. I hope many more vehicles will be able to be searched, all vehicles leaving and entering in fact. Im completely happy myself with the slight wait this would entail. :) It always worried me that some vehicles just left for example no search at all. I hope the search includes all employers at the park too you cant be lax about anyone given the seriousness of the horrific poaching situation. :|

Wonderful news, but I hope they search all vehicles and do not "favour" some. With these guys on the gates and the SANDF and SANParks men in the bush, hopefully there will be a decline in the number of poaching incidents.

On a recent trip we saw 3 SANParks armed field rangers walking down a dry river bed, intently looking for footprints! This was near Tshokwane. Great to see action.

This is good news. I also hpoe that they will be very strict Bert. I further hope that they will also call those who speed and litter to order.

On a recent trip my son spotted 2 anti-poaching guys in uniform leaning against a tree as we went through a donga. I was so intent on looking for animals I didn't see them!

For the past ten years, the Park outsourced its security service at the entry/exit points to private companies, as such was not totally involved in the guards’ selection and training process. “It is an absolute must that we prioritize the protection of this heritage and use every tactic which can assist in ensuring that the total control of all entry and exit points are managed by those tasked with the upkeep of the area integrity, concluded Sibiya.

Hi Lesego,

What does Sibiya means with the above statement? Does that mean that the park no longer outsourced its security service and that the new recruits replace the previous guards with still the same number of guards at 9 - 11 gates.

What will happen in case of strikes and will the guards only be used at the gates. My calculations says about 12 guards per gate working one long shifts of 12 hours 7 days a week.

Will these guards also be used to man road blocks or is it only at the gates where you will have security and not in the camps.

What about security of belongings in cars when viewing from hides etc? Cars obviously should be locked, but are alarms necessary?
After almost walking into an elephant when returning from Mphafa hide at Hluhluwe-Imfolozi I like to be able to enter my car without fiddling with alarms etc.

The newly appointed security guards stationed at Kruger Gate have arrested two females between the age of 30 - 40 found in a possession of six bags of dagga. The market value of this dagga is estimated to the value of R100 000.00.

This is great news, but at same time highlights just how bad the security was that 2 females were confident enough to assume they could just drive through the gates. Makes one wonder what has been pouring through this gate previously. :hmz: :hmz:

Also does not say if they were going in or out, if going in why would they be taking 6 bags in, if going out where did it come from inside Kruger or did it come through another gate and Kruger is used as a transit?

Wow, that is scary. As RobertT says, it raises questions as to where it was coming from/going to. Hope word gets spread that KNP is not easy to enter or leave with any illegal goods.
