New (Forum) Big Five

Unread postby Leaping Lizards » Thu Sep 05, 2013 8:21 am

So we always hear about the “BIG FIVE” or Tourist Five or,. as some say on this forum, the Boring Five.

May I suggest we debate a “Forum Big Five” A group of five that people would love to see and consider themselves very lucky to see and be considered the Big Five by all here. Heck, we may even expand that to seven.

I’ll kick off with my proposals

Wild Dog
Pangolin
Cheetah
Sable
Black Rhino

Hi there, have been following the forums for a while and finally joined.

I am going about a bit different with my list. We are visiting the park end September and this is the 5 animals I would most like to see. Roan and Eland misses out because we are not going to the Northern parts. Wild dog misses out because we had the most beautiful sight following them for 6km in the road just the other day.
The pangolin misses out because I regard it as a "kom nie voor".
Would love to see one, but the chances are just to small. Believe it or not but in all the years me and my wife going to KNP we only saw one Cheetah.
So here we go:

1. Black rhino
2. Cheetah
3. Sable
4. Caracal
5. African Crowned Eagle (taking a bit of a chance, but one never knows)

Sorry but what is a Suni? Never heard about it or seen in KNP. I think we are talking about a very small antilope?
Do someone have a picture? Is it possible we saw it once on safari in Botswana - Okavango delta but it's very uncommon.
Thanks

Sorry Alexmagda. No pic but a short description:

"This petite antelope stands only 350mm at the shoulders, and rams weigh only 5 kg. Ewes are slightly larger and weighs 5.4 Kg. Light-brown to chestnut coat, fading slightly at the flanks. White underparts and inner legs. They have broad, rounded ears, ashy-grey on the outside and pink inside. Only the rams grow horns, which are short, straight, heavily ridged and smooth tipped. Of all African antelope, this species has the largest pre-orbital scent glands relative to body size".
You can check Suni on Internet. :)

Eland
Black Rhino
Wild Dog + pups

A while back when I was staring at my PC pretending to work, but really just dreaming of Kruger, I came up with a Magnificent Seven and a Dirty Dozen (apologies to the movie buffs!).
