We visited the Steveson-Hamilton Memorial close to the Renosterkoppies dam on the S114. We were disgusted by the open latrine that welcomed us. If nature calls in nature, we are obliged to answer, but are also obliged to leave only footprints (and maybe a splash). But the rest can be put in a bag and not being left open for all viewers to see and unsuspecting shoes to step in...

Blydeboer I am always disgusted when Kruger visitors think that Kruger is an open air toilet :|

Did you had a long droop in mind like the ones at Orpen dam?

such a facility will eliminate this as well.

Good idea Blydeboer as people need comfort breaks

:hmz: there must be a spelling mistake in that statement...............or is there?

It would certainly help if a couple of long drops were constructed at other view sites.............there is nothing more disgusting than seeing toilet paper festoning bushes at a view point.

Sorry, yes PNF I meant as Blydeboer intended it to be - long drop. Thanks for the correction

Exactly what I have in mind. The portable toilets might be carried of or pushed over by some wild animals with a passenger on the white scooter...

But Stevenson Hamilton is about 11km from Skuks? :hmz:
Now I'm all in for a longdrop or two as I have had a few close calls in the Past but not being able to keep it in for about 20min is ridiculous.
Where I think maybe a longdrop should go is Mpondodam as its in the middle of Afsaal, CB, Skuks and Nkuhlu?

I do agree with you Blydeboer if someone wants to do a veltie as nature is calling, but the toiletpaper etc. Keep it in a bag!!!! You know how many times I've gone on loops and just see the aftermath looking me straight in the eye! :slap:

Even if KNP put up 4 new longdrops dispersed evenly between other bathrooms, we would still see toiletpaper everywhere ane people would still use other areas in the veld to do their things... Its never going to change.

I have suggested that Kruger should sell camouflaged toilet paper. At least it will be less visible. As far as long drops are concerned, they will eventually become short drops and what then? Do your business in camp and plan your routes and your fluid intake according to the size of your bladder. The long and the short is, 'moenie in die veld piepie nie, jy maak die mense kwaad'
Trans: Do not wee in the veld You make people angry.

As said the long and short of this is the following good advice:

Then if still unavoidable:

You have made my day today Rooies :gflower: Lekker gelag nou!!!!
Trans:(a good laugh now)

Ja people to be more serious about this, follow WendyA's example, pack in a plastic tube or a yoghurt pot or anything a bit durable... if you have a weak bladder... pee in there and then throw that out when nobody is looking BUT PUT YOUR TOILETPAPER IN A BAG to throw away in a dustbin.

Not with the yogurt pot and all please. The yogurt post must also go into the dustbin. Also not while driving and there are passengers in the back and their window is open.

Oh no GM

THrow the contents of the pot out whilst parked in a desolate area where nobody can see you. Then put the pot in a plastic bag also and throw away in a dustbin at a camp

Thank you Nkulu for the information, good to know about this. They may even come in handy to give as Birthday or Christmas presents :hmz: as practical gifts from the great Outdoors shops are always welcome .

Oooh, I am so passionate about this subject!!! Having travelled for the last 15 yrs with 4 children...the youngest then was 4yrs old...we have had many a scene! The best happened to be last year when, at a LIT sighting our eldest son decided he could no longer and we were parked in! I was adamant no-one was getting out the car so...having an empty energade bottle we put it to use    it was not big enough!!!
At this stage I am not sure what an effect our laughter and the 2 girls screeching in the back was having on the other viewers...probably  :sniper: ! Anyway cut a long story short he managed to change from pale and sweaty back to his normal smiley self...thanks to energade!
Same drive close to camp we came across an ellie on the road that kept us reversing and waiting for about 30mins...by that time our eldest daughter was sobbing in desperation...I did suggest, seeing it was so bad that perhaps she could quickly jump out  but she refused...no idea why :hmz: Fortunately ellie let us pass and she made it!
Moral of the story is...these things happen and although one plans trips to have regular (legal) toilet breaks, the bush is the bush and things happen, but hey...no excuse for litter!!! :naughty:

Interesting thread and some good ideas!! Those toilet paper and tissues bushes and plants have become a very familiar sighting!! Now we just need to get a way to communicate these great ideas to the visitors who are not visiting the forums :hmz:

I can attest to that - thanks to WendyA's example works like a charm. (If it were not for a drinks meet at LS, I would have been none the wiser.)

How lucky is Wendy!!!! A yoghurt pot indeed I think I would need dustbin!!!! Oh and also Heksie :naughty:
you are killing the image of our poor Wendy ... Remember " what goes on on tour stays on tour"
