We don't know the area @ all but will be exploring the Panorama Route, staying @ Graskop and plan to enter via the Orpen Gate. We are spending 2 nights @ Olifants and 2 @ Lower Sabie. Any advice on routes-any must do's- to go to Olifants and then 2 days later to Lower Sabie. Also,we do have a fridge/freezer in our vehicle but where en route(coming fron Graskop)to stock up on fresh fruit, veggies, bread etc. Should i vacuum pack and freeze meat @ home or shop before I enter the park? Thanks in advance-love these forums-so informative:)

Graskop has a small Spar , where you could get groceries, otherwise Hoedspruit has a Pick n Pay.

I would definately go shopping before you enter the Game Reserve.
There will be a far wider choice and it will be cheaper than the camp shops.

But the camp shops are good for when you run out of something, or if you have forgotten something.

We always vacuum pack and freeze our meat; this is because I have been buying all my meat from the same butcher for the past 30 years; so I know exactly what the quality is going to be like. We started doing this after a trip some years ago when the meat we bought at a supermarket in Nelspruit turned out to be pretty bad when we tried to braai....but that is another story.
Vacuum packed and frozen meat will stay cold, even frozen, in a cool box with ice bricks for days (depending on the time of the year). Travelling from the Cape to Kruger in May/June is no problem, vacuum packed meat and wrapped in newspaper, packed in a cooler box is still partially frozen three days later.
We normally stock up on veggies/salad ingredients/cheese/bread/snacks/cold drinks at a supermarket before we go into the park. Depending on the route you take from Graskop to Orpen, there are a number of possible places that you can stock up on stuff before entering the park.
If you are maybe travelling via Hazyview (or even visiting Hazyview prior to entering the park) there is a butcher that you may want to visit (in the event that you do not pre-pack your own meat). If you want, I will PM you the details.
Enjoy your trip!

If you are entering at Orpen gate MAKE sure that you vacuum pack ALL meat their is alot of road blocks up that way again for foot and mouth disease so the cops are checking for meat again and if it isn't vacuum packed they will take it, I agree with them in saying pre freeze your meat and wrap it in newspaper it keeps the cold in but where do you live? How far will you be travelling before you get to graskop area, I would take the butchers details that the gent has offered you rather phone them prior to leaving tell them what you want and that they should vacuum pack and freeze it for you and pick it up en route in my opinion it would be a safer option if you intend on taking chicken ensure that its your first meal or meals but becareful of it defrosting. :)

We are travelling from Port Elizabeth. Thanks for the advice. I will vacuum pack our meat and freeze it in our Waeco fridge/freezer rather and just buy fresh fruit/veggys and bread @ the Spar.

Hi Bethmary :D you certainly have picked two of the most scenic camps  I feel rather     have a great time.

I would suggest that if at all possible, include the S39 while you are at Olifants. Perhaps you could travel this route on your way from Orpen to Olifants.

I would then try to include the S100 on the drive from Olifants to Lower Sabie. While at Lower Sabie, the S28 is a must. I have always found it my most productive drive.
