Me with my wife and two sons aged 15 & 5 are visiting KNP in May-2013. If someone help on my queries I will be greatful.
1. We have done our booking at Oli Rest Camp for 4 nights. Is that the right decision.
2. Where will we get a vehicle and guide who can take us around

Welcome to the forum ajaymadan.

From your questions it seems like you would benefit from spending some time browsing the Kruger Park threads on this forum.

1. There is no 'right' decision. Everybody has their favourite camps, But Olifants has arguably the best river view in the park and one can sit with a pair of binoculars and look out there for hours. Most first time visitors make the mistake of spending each (in your case 4 nights) night in a different camp. It might be better to split the 4 nights between 2 camps, but 4 in Olifants is not bad.

2. To get to Olifants, you will have to hire a vehicle from one of the many hire companies that are easily googled. Then you buy, for about USD 6, a great map book at the gate or first camp you get to, and navigate your way around the park. You do not need a guide. Just talk to fellow visitors about their sightings and refer to your map book. All the roads are numbered.

This could be your first of many visits.

Good luck.

My opinion I wouldn't stay in olifants I would stay in lower sabie, crocodile bridge or berg en dal as for vehicles rent one from a company and drive yourself through the park you don't need a guide as long as you have a kruger map in hand you can't get lost! Good luck enjoy :)

Hi Ajaymadan
Welcome to the forums 10 mites will give you ten different answers to the first question and one and all the same on the second. So the xecond is easy get a map and explore all by your selve
The first I would personally do 2 night Lower Sabie and 2 nights Satara. Lots of open grasslands with lots of game. Easir to spot and you can still go to Olifants if you are in Satara. Just my 2 cents

Enjoy

Warm welcome Ajaymadan!

As you have already been told Kruger is basically self driving which is the best way to see the sights and experience the true beauty.
There are guided activities from the various camps but they are only for a few hours at a time.

Have a read through This Topic for lots of good advice and info.

I also tend to agree that it would be better to split your time between 2 camps to enable you to see other parts of the park.

welcom
you must realise that there is no "public" type transport from one camp to another So you would have to hire that car Dont worry about 4x4s just a nice sedan with aircon would be fine.
If you do not want to do much driving then there are the morning walks from the camps plus evening sunset and night drives . Therefore if you were at two camps you would have different drives .
Olifants is a nice camp with a good restaurant and fantastic views .. So you could spend a whole day there just sitting at the viewpoint

Hi AJ, and welcome.
How are you getting to Kruger in the first place?
You can hire a vehicle from Hoedspruit airport, or are you driving from Joburg?

Hello I suggest go slowly through the main pages of the website and you can read a lot about the KNP plus read the travel reports in the forums
