How many leopards have you seen altogether? I am busy working out the total number of leopards I have seen since my first visit to the KNP since 1981 and the number seems to be a lot.

boy....my memory does not go that far back...but you have me thinking

Hey... All in all I can remember about 26 leopards (24 sightings) since I started going in 1987... Interestingly 8 have been on the M1 between Skuz and Lower Sabie. Have also seen 3 separate leopards within 100m of Letaba over the same period . sorry wildchild I'm Hijacking a little but just to add some spice to the question... What area has yielded the most leopards for you?

Wow, this is a tough one to answer.

Since my first visit to the KNP in 1988, and then at least one visit every year thereafter, with an average of 2-3 leopards per trip; I'd say I'm in the region of 40-50 leopards.

Saw 5 on my December 2008 trip.

The area that has yielded the most sightings has been around Skukuza, with Letaba and Shingwedzi fighting it out for a clsoe 2nd place.

Only 2 One in the distance and one very close outside Pretoriouskop on my first visit to SA (couldn't believe my eyes) Oh and a nearly one with a traffic jam .Which we left because of the pushing and shoving..before we saw it.

Quick mental reckoning - 20! (2 Berg-en-Dal, 2 together Shingwedzi river, 2 near Letaba, 1 S28/Duke turning, 1 S28 junction near LS, 1 high level green bridge, 1 in tree near LS causeway, 1 in tree south of S28 turning on tar, 1 in tree near Gormondwane turning, 1 in tree near malelane gate, 1 on Maroela loop, 1 near Mpondo dam, 1 near Transport dam, 1 near Phabeni road, 1 in Addo, 1 near Nkuhlu, 1 north of Tskokwane). Probably lots more 'misses' because I avoid sighting jams.

Oh - and that is in 3 and a half years.

Think my list is on 17, since visiting Kruger from 1996 (really have a list in filing cabinet....will have to dig it out again to remember all the locations).

21 in total.
1 in Eto.....
4 in Kgal and
6 in Kruger.

Believe it or not, I was fortunate enough to see a leopard crossing the road on my very first trip to KNP back in 81. Thereafter things just got better and better...leopards, leopards and more leopards.
This leopard was seen on the way to Skukuza coming from Numbi. LOG.

Therefore, all told I have seen twenty two leopards to date.
The most on any one trip was back in 2004 when we saw 3 in one day and another two a few days later during our sunset drive from Malelane, making it 5 in one trip.

Saw 23 Leopards in 10 visits to Kruger
- 1 mating pair at Satara
- 6 LIT (3 feeding on Impala)
- most Leopards at a sighting : 3 (female with 2 cubs)
- only 1 on a night drive (LOG)
- most productive roads : H3 and H4-1

Skukuza - 1 - H1-1
Bergendal - 1 - S110
Biyamiti - 1 - S118
Lower Sabie - 8 - S82, H4-1, H4-2


Updated through 2012, I have now seen about 28 leopards in 6 trips to Kruger. My most productive area is the tar road from CB to LS.

Must be around 18....and 13 of which I have photographical evidence... This means on average one per KNP visit...

Haven't been north of Mopanie much, but I have to admit especially around Berg-en-Dal and Skukuza. Lately, I am struggling to find them compared to other years... I don't know why though!

And the rest? Wasn't that inside Croc Bridge, on the big screen
