We`re planning of spending 4 days in the southern Kruger NP area in July 2013, probably staying at Protea Kruger Gate Lodge before moving on to a private concession. We`ll be on a selfdrive safari during the first four days and we want to visit Kruger NP for game drives daily.
Is July high season? Is it really necessary to make advance bookings for the "Day Visitors Passes" so that we have a guarantee to get into the park? Any experiences?

Looking forward to hear your thoughts!

July is extremely popular in Kruger - particularly during the school holidays which next year are from 22 June - 14 July. I would definitely recommend that you pre-book your day permits. Rather be safe than sorry

Hi they require the dates, number of people and which gate you are entering. This is sent to central reservations, who will confirm and request payment.

I'm planning an August trip to Kruger with the family and have been advised that accommodation may already be difficult to come by, so I've emailed a couple of enquiries to ask about availability but so far no reply.
Is there any faster way to do things?
As I haven't even got the plane tickets (from Spain) yet, I hadn't realised I would have to be booking a place to stay so early!

Ya I agree with redlomo  go to www.sanparks.org then Kruger National parks, so then you can check out the camps and see what is available and then book online :D

Hi Tim - August is private schools' holidays, so the Park might be pretty fully-booked. I suggest you book what you see is available now and then keep checking and amend the booking when you see other camps come up. Remember one month before the dates you want, final payments are due and people often don't pay then and the accommodation becomes available. I know that is too late for booking flights, but might help you to "trim" your booking.

Good luck.

Tim Welcome to the Forum...just remember, when you book online as suggested above you have to pay the full amount upfront....I would suggest you look to see whats available and make a booking online (for 2 or 3 nights), pay for it and then login to your booking and you can make changes etc as you please...!!! They do not charge you to make changes so far in advance..only 1 month in advance stop making changes, and the changes you make can be paid as per your updated booking :D :D

It is also cheaper to book online and pay upfront.

Link to Availability

Also, have a look a month before your planned trip (don't leave booking that late!) to see if your preferred accommodation options become available and you can change the booking. If clients do not pay their full deposit on due date (one month before their visit) the booking is cancelled, and thus accommodation options become available again.

Hi,

I am new to this forum and have a question regarding bookings:

I would like to make a booking for a wilderness trail, and I am not opposed to doing it through the online booking system. However, I would like clarification regarding refunds the refunds policy, because my travel plans are not absolutely finalized.

If I were to cancel a booking with more than 30 days advance notice, would I get a full refund? I see rules spelled out for 30-15 days before reservation, etc., so am I correct in assuming a full refund if cancelled with more than 30 days advance notice?

Thanks in advance for your input!

Hi cgo111 and a warm welcome to the forum!

I would read it as more than 30 days = full refund as well.

Am I wasting my time checking regularly throughout the day to see if there are any changes to accommodation availability?

Is all accommodation data only updated once daily, after midnight?

Can't seem to find this info published anywhere.

Thanks.

Found this on the Availability page

Please Note:
Availability information is updated real-time (unless interrupted by technical difficulties) between our reservation system and this website. As reservations are accepted on a first-come-first-served basis, we cannot guarantee that accommodation you see as available now will still be available when you make a reservation.

Just yesterday I moved one of my bookings to a later date and when I checked, noticed that it had changed accordingly on the availability.

Hope that helps

Also don't forget now with the new 2013 reservations the final balance now has to be paid 60 days prior to arrival so unpaid reservations will become available sooner . :hmz:
