Definitely significant progress from when we were there in early Jan; looking good and will be over the moon to use the new bridge. May would be marvellous, meaning we could move our booking forward.

Was hoping that they would build this bridge higher as we all know the Olifants river can increase very quickly and very often.

Why spend money on something if we all know it won't work

Somebody has written on facebook that the low level bridge at Balule is going to reopen on 7 May 2015. If this is correct, I will be over the moon, as we are booked in at Balule on 8 May 2015 for 3 nights.

Bridge at Balule camp

Unread postby Johan Squires » Tue Apr 07, 2015 12:25 pm

I plan to visit the KNP during July 2015 and spend some time around Olifants and Balule camp areas. Question: Bridge near Balule, crossing the Olifants river - has this been repaired and open for traffic yet?

Any news on this will be appreciated

Johan Squires

The bad news is that the bridge wasn't completed on 7 May as advised by Lesley Nyawo. I have been at Balule from 8 May to 11 May and was advised by one of the officials in authority that there was a delay by the contractors and that it was only going to be completed on Thursday 14 May.

The good news is that it will probably open sometime this month. It looks like it is near completion, with just a section leading onto the bridge from Balule side to be finalized. :)

Hi Chip - it was announced elsewhere on the forums that the bridge will open 15 May. Sorry you missed it :(
