About the LST2U booking. You can email / fax the camp with your reservation number and make a special request for a specific tent. All of them are GREAT  but some of them are even GREATER

Make a request for tent 16 (against the fence on your left and front). There you will really feel the magic of the bush all around you.

Your itinerary sounds fantastic, George!
All that is left for you to do now is to start counting the days! We wish you a great trip, and hope you will come back here many times. Once you have been you'll always want to return.

Well, the past six months have just blown by with work and life and all that. To tell the truth, I've been so busy with work projects, I have hardly given any thought at all to my upcoming trip, which begins on March 5, just five days away... Everything is booked. We will fly from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit on March 5. Since we will be renting a vehicle to take us from Hoedspruit to Skukuza--and then leaving the vehicle at the rental there and beginning the Metsi Metsi Trail the next morning--there won't be anywhere for us to store goods bought outside of the camp. As a result, we're only bringing our backpacks and are therefore not going to stock up outside of Kruger. I have a few final questions before I fly out:

1. Even though we won't be able to stock up outside of the park, per se, is there anything you recommend I buy in Hoedspruit before entering the park (that can be carried around in our packs)?

2. My father and I both smoke (terrible habit, I know). Do they sell cigarettes in the camps or do I need to buy those in Hoedspruit?

3. For the twelve days that we spend in the camp, how much cash do you recommend we bring for the two of us?

4. The only things I haven't booked/prepaid are night drives and bush braiis. I wanted to be flexible and have options for those. Can we just sign up when we arrive at each camp... or do I need to get cracking on that now?

5. I would assume the answer is "no," but are there storage lockers--or any other system--for rent in the camps where we might store items while we're on the Metsi Metsi Trail?

Thank you,

George

With regards to the international drivers license, I have never been asked by the car hire companies to show one, they only ask to see my Canadian DL. Two years ago on our way back to KMIA we were randomly pulled over by a traffic cop and he was happy with my Canadian DL so I am pretty confident in saying a North American DL is enough, cant vouch for a German one though, if its not in english.

Hi,
I have regularly rented cars with only my Swiss license, and the one occasion I was pulled over in a random police check my license was received with broad smiles. It's in three languages none of them English!
Best of luck, Bill

George, this sounds so exciting. 8)

I would stock up with drinks and cigarettes at Hoedspruit. You can get both in Kruger, but it will be a lot more expensive. I found the food on the trails quite adequate and very tasty, but if you wish to take a few snacks, stock up on that as well. Beware of monkeys though

Not sure if you drink alcohol, but if you do, sundowners are essential. I also found isotonic drinks after a trail walk very refreshing. Something like Powerade or Energade is available in most shops. You might still have some very hot weather, so keep hydrated. Beer is great for relaxing, but not for hydrating.

You will probably be very tired your first night, so one of the many restaurants at Skukuza will serve you well. You can do more shopping once your trail is over.
