Certainly does sound to me as if they were on a no entry road as there would definitely have been other traffic during all the time they were there.
Think they might have a lot of explaining to do! :naughty:

If they were on a "No Entry" it just shows how you can't believe everything you read in the papers!!
The article makes it sound as though they were amazing people, who after dreadful bad luck with their vehicle, valiantly trudged through the bush..............no mention of a possible breaking of the law!!
Also as Duco has already pointed out, the comment "elephants and other predators" is very comical.

This trip, however, would be one that they would never forget. After signing in at the Phabeni gate just after 06:00 they travelled north in their Isuzu bakkie. As is his habit Honeyball kept to the less-travelled roads.

They eventually found a path with some tyre tracks and followed it in the direction of Tshokwane

That sounds suspect

I see some assuming and presuming going on here. May I suggest that we wait for a report from KNP officials.

SANPARKS would you please post a report on the forum as soon as possible.

How often do situations like this happen? I was on a sunsrt drive from lower sabie earlier this year and after gate closing time we came across a family in a car. Our guide was suspicious and stopped them, it turned out they only had a day pass. He told them to go back to Skukuza and they would receive a fine. I think in the end they were forced to book accommodation that night because i saw them again the next morning. Innocent, uninformed mistake or suspicious?!

Interesting Butterbee :hmz:

I guess we cannot know for sure. But I tend to think that the pamphlet giving conditions of entry leaves everyone without excuse.

(Nice to check you on the forum :D Swing by the V's chit chat if you like :D )

In today/s Lowvelder newspaper it says they were stuck for 2 nights in their broken down vehicle and eventually walked about 20kms in the direction of Tshokwane where they met up with anti-poaching staff being dropped off for their shift.

Different thread, I think.

Have a look here and see this is the one you were looking for.

You're right pops, we have no official report of Kruger, but howmay legall roads are there in the south which are not driven fo 2 days by any vehicle, tourists or official-vehicle..... :hmz:

I would be very surprised if this was not on a No-Entry road....
Fine them and let them pay all the costs for the helicopters-rescue and so on.

:slap: Brave indeed, :slap: No ways it was a normal tourist road, the park is very busy at the moment.

I'm sorry, but the whole editorial of this article made this idiot out to be a hero. I seems that (reading between the lines) that this is a guy who lives near to the park, visits often and thinks he can do what he pleases regarding roads. I don't think there are many legal sand roads that are 20 km from a tar road. I think they should throw the book at him! If his car was found in a no entry road, deny him access to the park for a couple of years to teach him a lesson. :rtm:

A "back road"? Even the very, very quietest of roads in the KNP will have traffic every day. Unless, of course, it is a no-entry road. I think it is a fair assumption that these people were, and are, in the wrong.

They should be fined, not only for breaking the rules, but also to cover the costs of the helicopters used to try and find them. Would a ban be too heavy-handed? It would certainly act as a deterrent...
