Its official.

Never have I experienced such overcrowding at Kruger. :hmz: Sunset dam was impossible. Even the birds were not coping.

There needs to be more regulation with some inhabitants. :rtm:

Jan, you should seriously consider publishing a cofee table book, no, make that two - one for Sunset Dam and one for Lake Panic!

Will just have to check it out in October after the school holidays. Being grown up and with no kids at school has its benefits.

My final 2 days in Kruger were spent at Lower Sabie. It was a special treat to myself to spend them in the tents.

Don't have to travel far, I thought :hmz: to get wonderful diversity.

Oh dear, how wrong could I be? But what a stunning opportunity to get the biggest buffalo herds I have ever seen. On both days, Sunset dam was almost completely over run by hundreds of buffalo.

These were obviously sated, content and sleepy beasts. They seemed to fill just about every available bit of free gound.

leaving a bit of space for the locals.

Image

to prove I was there, yellow ribbon and all.

On my final evening I went for a drive. As I neared Lower Sabie I saw a haze of cloud near Sunset dam. I went to investigate. Why didn't I arrive sooner? :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:
and why did I not read my new camera intructions? :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

I took a few pictures trying to get a feel for the drama of the moment, it was quite awesome. The hundreds of buffalo, the clouds of dust through the bush being filtered by the setting sun.

AWESOME

and just to remind everyone why its called Sunset dam.

Sue, I am always cautious when I recommend the north in winter. Most people have few opportunities to visit and their expectations for sightings are high. The south is the place to be in winter.. overcrowded indeed.. with animals seeking water and sweet grass.
