You know, there has been some talk around the actual cost of accommodation within Kruger, and how this is no longer aimed at locals, but international tourists.

I last stayed in Kruger in 2007 (far too long ago I know), and yes, the price has pretty much tripled since then. But go book some accommodation elsewhere for a night for a family of 4. It's pretty much well over R1000 for any kind of room, and you wake up to the sound of a siren or to cars racing past your window. Not the sound of nature waking up with the sun.

In my view, although no longer quite the "budget" holiday it used to be, the prices of accommodation within the park is still cheaper than elsewhere. And if you camp, it's actually dirt cheap compared to what a lot of other campsites charge.

Now, if only it wasn't all the way across the country... :D

As an international visitor I can only say that the accommodation represents excellent value for money although I realise I am fortunate to have advantage of an excellent exchange rate. Nevertheless, I think we always need to keep in mind that this is an amazing wildlife destination and it is always a privilege to visit. Yet, you know my SO came up with a great word to describe it - ACCESSIBLE. All I know is that last year one morning I was washing dishes at Shimuwini and looking out the window at the hippos at the same time - what price can you put on that?

When you look at the prices of accommodation in Kruger it doesn't represent the value we have seen 10 years ago, however I believe you cannot put a price on the surroundings. Even in the big camps, Skukuza or Satara, when you wake up pre-dawn and walk to your car for your early morning game drive with the smell of the bush in your nose...priceless!!

Still I think the prices are relatively fair against others in South Africa, add the surroundings and there is nothing better.

Agreed, prices do go up
But compaired to many other destinations in southern africa is still very reasonable.
Google Namibian Wildlife reserves
For Ethosha starting at R500 per person per night and going up

And we are used to the Wildcard these days but the introduction of the WC does help with the daily conservation fee if you are in a SANPark for a week or longer.

Please don't make comments like that. The price will treble for next year...

It was in large part due to the massive price increases for NWR that we decided to give KNP a go and we are so glad we did!

I am still happy with the prices as they are!
I mean really where else can you get camping for R180 per day for 2 people, a hut for 2 people for R255???
And with all that you get the experience of a lifetime just being in Kruger!!

Camping for 2 people: R180
Dinner: R100
Diesel: Mmmmm, Can't really put a price to that
Going to bed with lions roaring in the background:............ Priceless

Now I'm going to be unpopular, and disagree with the previous posts.
I'm not trying to "get at" SANparks, I am just telling the truth from our point of view!!

As overseas pensioners on a fixed income, we have to be very careful with our pennies these days.

As a lot of you know Dungie and I are very lucky to be able to come to SA for 6 months each year, but we cannot now afford to stay in my beloved Kruger, other than for the odd night or two.

Camping may be cheap, but the other units are not in my opinion.
I understand the reasons why (I think) so this is NOT a complaint, just a statement of the facts.

Of course occasionally there are 40% discounts during quiet periods, and if these are available when we are able to go, that is a different matter. Otherwise we now have to stay outside the park and go in on a daily basis.

The wildcard however is a wonderful godsend!!
Although the internationalcouples card is R2000+, if you go into the park as often as we do it is so well worth it!!

threedogs

So and I 'found' South Africa and its wonderful parks after becoming disillusioned with NWR prices too. Who needs four poster beds and jacuzzis when there is wildlife to be watched.
We think KNP is still good value and so too are the other parks and even outside guest houses etc.
Coming from the UK where accommodation is very expensive we live for our trips to SA even though our government are trying to price us out of flying anywhere! Roll on September when we will be back! :D

I'm paying R2700 for 5 nights (family of 4) in the park (safari tent and huts) ... Simply can't afford hotels anymore so imo its worth every cent  .... The accom we booked is not luxury but hey this the bush, who wants all that luxury stuff anyway...
