Should you report hyeanas on your step inside the camp? If so what after hours number?

All units have emergency numbers for the duty manager on the wall .... but rather just enjoy the moment and keep the fly-sheet door closed....

Probably best to report it as long as it is safe for you to do so - i.e. if there is a hyena around don't go outside to look for a phone number in the car.

On your permit you should find all the numbers you will need.

There should also be a number to call on the paper with the map they give you on check in.

Brilliant.

We had much the same (not river unit) some years ago. Amazing how silently something so large can move! Still one of my best memories of Kruger; standing just inside the screen door (firmly latched) watching the Hyena checking out the stoep....

It was really something special, I woke up at about 11:48 pm by a noise on my ''stoep" (I guess Veranda or sidewalk for the English people) and thought that someone is busy there and went to investigate.

It was dark as I turned off all my lights and there she was standing about my table's height busy in my dustbin. As you mentioned apart from throwing over the dustbin the movements was quiet and kind of ''sneaky''

She never noticed that im just behind the glass door staring and not moving... (I take it she was a female by the size)

The next night I waited patiently but nothing. I noticed a hole in the fence or more underneath the fence big enough for a hyeana to climb through and believe that to be her entrance point.

She did however "sing" for me every night.

The next morning my neighbors were in disbelief of how it is possible for a hyeana to be in the camp
