Hi all, I am new to the forums and planning for our first ever trip to Kruger next year June/July 2015.
I am reading posts to get familiar with suggestions of best way to plan trips, but people talk about roads (mainly gravel ones) that are not mentioned on the map found under the Park info online.

We are staying at a lodge just minutes outside Croc Bridge Gate for 7 nights - we have been offered accommodation so will be a day visitor.

Have read up on the limitations (ie later into Park than people staying in the Park etc) and would like to make the most of our driving time in the Southern Part of the park.

We will be hiring a rental car at OR Tambo so would like to know the distances between various points within the Park (ie if you were entering at Crocodile Bridge for day trip where/how far would you drive on a daily basis).

A good starting point would be to get my hands on a more detailed map with all the loops etc mentioned.
thanks
Mark

Welcome Mark :D

If you zoom into google maps they do seem to give the gravel roads, with road numbers and even names I see.

Welcome
If you are staying outside the park its best to get a day pass before you arrive then you can be guaranteed admittance as each gate has a quota for day visitors and June/'July are school holidays . Always try to arrive at the gate at gate opening then you don't miss any viewing time... Lower Sabie now has a great place to have breakfast so no need to worry before you leave .
Oh and have a great time

Thanks, I have made a note of getting a Pre-Booked day trip pass for R20 pp - read about it on another thread as well to prevent being truned away due to Park limits :wall: .

Warm welcome Mark!

Some more Maps

From Croc Bridge we sometimes like to do a drive up to Lower Sabie, then take the H10, stop off at Tshokwane picnic site for a bit of lunch, then come back down the H1-2, take the H12 over the high level bridge and back down the H4-1, past Lower Sabie and back down towards CB.
Takes a full day but very enjoyable.
But there are so many routes/choices in that area to do.

Welcome to the Forum, Mark.

Where are you based? If you are UK, I could gladly buy a Kruger map for you when we go out in November and then post it on to you on our return. Perhaps another 'mite could do something similar if you live elsewhere. It would give you a chance to familiarise yourself with roads and camps etc ahead of time. A new edition is printed every year so you could then get the current Kruger map when you arrive at the Park yourself.

A very warm welcome to you Markbooysen. :gflower: I hope that you have a marvelous trip.

I usually factor in an average speed of 25kms an hour. That is to accommodate the sightings that can add to your travel time.

The roads around Croc Bridge bridge can be some of the most productive and I wish you well with sightings. The S28 has treated me well in the past. The route that Elsa suggests to Tshokwane is a pleasure and covers many eco zones.

Small update:

Flight arrangements have been decided on, just need to be booked, details as follows:

CPT - Nelspruit - CPT (Airlink operated)

Will be hiring an AVIS rental car with following details:

Category C (just wife and I) with unlimited milage (do not want to pay R3/km for anything over 1,050 km) as we plan to be 6 nights and self drive so rather know the cost upfront and budget for the petrol (toll gates etc)

Now I need to confirm the dates for Ngwenya Lodge so I can book return flights.

Hi all... firstly apologies as this actually relate to RCI and Ngwenya Lodge (MODS, feel free to delete if post contravenes the posting rules).

I am trying to confirm my booking at Ngwenya Lodge through RCI but they say that there are no available units as they are waiting for people to space bank.

Problem is that I want to use my Voyager Miles to buy my return ticket to Nelspruit but the miles expire end of Oct ... do not want to book until I have accommodation booked.

If anyone has any past experience I would greatly appreciate your feedback
thanks
Mark

Mark, you are right, this is definitely non SANParks related and I ask that anyone with any info do so strictly via PM to you and not here.
