For the sake of time I left the park at Croc Bridge and used the N4 to Malelane.

Caravan was fine - just a couple of pegs pulled out.

No damage visible on the N4 between Komatipoort and Malelane.

Saw a couple of pics on the BB groups today of the H12 bridge. Water looks back to normal (maybe bit more than usual) the bridge is ok the bars are bent and broken but all and all not to bad

Just chatted to one of the house-keeping staff here - the water did not even get close to the fence. The camp was fine although a bit wet!

Does anyone know how all this damage compares to the damage after the 2000 floods?

suspect a report will be made up in the near future
all i know is that the water level was not as high as then and less camps were hit by the water
And the north was spared this time

Thanks Lesego and DuQes for the pics. Looks like Tshokwane was the river bed for a while . . . and thanks everyone for the updates. EJ so glad your caravan is OK and your camp was safe from the flood. Looks like Funso has swung east too so things can get safely back to normal.

Hi everyone

Please note that the pictures of the flood and aftermath have been split off to a separate topic - The January 2012 Kruger Flood in Picutes. Please add you photos and videos to that topic. This will ensure easy reference for the future. This topic will remain one for reports, information and discussion.

Flutterby, having been in and around Kruger in 2000, and again last week I do think that 2000 was much worse, although the areas between rivers was harder hit this time round, i.e. Tshokwane and Olifants area past Satara, Also, the water at Letaba came from the opposite edge of camp, that little stream you walk over to the Picnic site from the shops. Most of the real damage seems to have come from the little steams you cross everyday in Kruger, that is usually bone dry.

I do have a theory in that the 2000 floods basically carved a way in the Major waterways to enable the water to not burst the banks, and that might have made a difference as well. But just My opinion. :hmz:

If you look at some of the pic's, i.e. Komatpoort Low level bridge, the pumphouse on the other side of the pic was totally submerged in 2000, here it is still sticking out by about 3 meters. Also I think that the Park staff was very fast, and efficient in their reactions, and that made a difference
