I heard that Hoedspruit received 240mm in 24 hours and Nelspruit 150mm in 24 hours. Is Kruger flooding at the moment?

Similar to what happened in 2000. Moz got hammered on the one side just like now and then the rain fell here in the west leaving the water to go nowhere with Kruger stuck in the middle.

I've just seen a photo of the Sabie river in full flood with trees in the watery mass being swept to Moz in one helluva hurry!

2000 revisited. The sequel...

More pics coming in. Hyena hiding under a roof at Afsaal. Sabie river a torrent mass of water. Unbelievable really.

2 differences this time though - the levels from 2000 are in memory so warnings should be given in time for evacuation if needed, and also it has been a very dry season here so far, so the water table is generally low and the water will be able to subside quicker once the rain stops.

Amazing and scary images coming through, I just hope the rains don't continue on too long or there is not more heavy rain following on top of the already high levels, then the damage is always that much worse.
Please take care all those in the park.

Phalaborwa between 155mm and 180mm. Selati River (feeding the Olifants) in flood.

We measured 230mm in White River this morning. Guage was actually overflowing so probably more than that, and it is still pouring here! Very worrying - very similar to the type of rain we had in the floods in 2000

Or could make it worse! The river cannot flush out properly because of the dam wall, and so anything washed that far just ends up polluting the area - the reason for the problem in the first place.
