Hopefully this Kruger custom will continue in the future as Kruger is a place where people should take it slow and be friendly towards each other

It is good to greet :yaya: your fellow friendly Kruger drivers and visitors in Kruger who:

• Do not drive and worm themselves in front of you when there is an interesting sighting
• Show you the good sightings that they see
• Are clearly interested in the nature and their surroundings
• Do not S-P-E-E-D
Share the road with others

I hope they - the 8) :) ones will get more and more and the :eviltreath:  less aand less on the Kruger roads.

Many happy Kruger greetings to all :D

Just come back from a weekend in the Kruger. Greeted plenty people driving by. Very little in return, but that is just their problem if they don't want to greet. I also take note of the car registration and check the reaction to a wave , after this weekend , I can safely say that FS (Free State) people are the most likely to greet back   . And the worst----------Try it for yourselves :hmz:
Well done all of you from the Free State
and no, I am not from the Free State

It's Tradition!! I can remember as a child my folks doing it and I continue with it. I will also sometime stop folks to tell them about a lepi in the tree or something special down the road. Last year I flagged down a car - turned out to be German tourists- and they were so grateful that I told them about the lions. I wish more people would stop and "chat"

I am a hand/Finger raiser. I am finding more and more people are not bothering and less and less people are stopping for a quick chat.

I possible reason for CA driver not to wave. Most genuine CA drives took a plane and infact are renting GP number plates and those who drove up are just tired after the long haul. It takes a day or 3 to recover your humour after a drive like that you know

My late dad always greeted other road users in the park, something that I just accepted as the done thing. However: some time during the latter years of my dad's life the tendency started for people to respond to the hand raised in greeting by lifting a finger from the steering wheel. His response to this was: if you can't be bothered to stir more than a finger to greet me, then don't bother at all.

I'm pretty much of the same opinion. I will wave. Just lifting a finger is, in my opinion, a bit insulting

I have found that people from the Western Cape (not CA cars specifically, those are probably mostly rentals) are quite prepared to greet (even stop and chat), particularly people from the Overberg (Caledon, Bredasdorp and the like). Also, the locals (MP) seem to be quite ready to stop and chat. Overall, in fact, very few people simply ignore you if you greet them.

Seems like this thread has been brought back to life with the mention of number plates :D I hope I did not offend anyone. It was not my intention at all, merely an observation based purely on this past weekend from my own experience . On other trips I have noted that other provinces are just as friendly .

I learnt the "standard" Kruger greeting way back in the late 60's and early 70's , as mentioned before, it seems to be a tradition that has been carried down through generations , lets all try and keep the tradition alive.

Happy Krugerparking to all and don't forget to Image

Morecat and I did quite a few Mexican Waves to passing cars this past weekend   that created a response from most    and I am sure put a smile on their faces , maybe :hmz: or we are just nuts :D

Now that I read this thread I'm reminded that my dad also used to do this. It used to be the norm rather than the exception.

I'll try to remember to keep on with the tradition when I visit KNP next month. :hello:

My dad still does and so do we. Would be great to let the tradition live on.

I made a point of waving/greeting to all the cars approaching from the front during our week-long trip to Kruger in May.

I am happy to say that at least 90% of drivers responded in the expected (positive) fashion. I also had an old-school chat regarding sightings with three different individuals that I met on the road.

Where I come from in the rural areas the raised finger is a regular occurrence, many times accompanied by a head nod. I do it out of habit, and always will, whether I get a response or not. It is something I do without even really thinking about it.
