Hi everyone, we spent a lovely, relaxing weekend in the Kruger Park, but to our shock nobody greeted us  We always wave at people driving past us - just to say good morning/afternoon. We had one person greeting us first  And when we saw something amazing, we stopped cars and let them know (although not everybody cought on that you wanted to share something nice with them :| )! Let's greet each other and when we see something share it! Afterall, we are in heaven and should be happy

It's easy to miss a wave from an oncoming car depending on the light. The reflections off the oncoming windscreen can completely obscure the occupants. I'm probably thought of as unfriendly for not responding to an unseen wave at times.

We are in the park at the moment) as some of you will know) every day for the next 8 weeks.

For every 10 cars we wave to, we get 2 replies on average!!

You start to feel a bit silly after a while........but we still persevere!!

It is so lovely when we do get a reply wave, and yesterday people stopped us to ask had we seen much, and shared their sightings, that was so nice!!

I wave at everyone - and am not so sure you should blame the reflection Hawk :naughty: I see the people wave

But then I am an angel, able to multi-task :whistle: {You know, watch for game, drive, talk, think, eat and wave - all at the same time}

Go girl!!! :D :D :D

I'm definitely a finger raiser, especially on the quiet roads. If people do not respond, too bad for them - they just don't get it.

The friendliness of most of the Kruger visitors is one of those things that still make a Kruger visit great. I think to raise a finger (s) or even better to :) is good

Hi :yaya:

I just saw this forum now, and to be honest since I only passed my driving in August very near to me return date to the UK, I really miss home. I have realised over the years that my dad has always raised his finger at an approaching car, and so many times the driver stops and also has a chit chat with us and tells us about the sightings he/she had.

I also love chatting to people at camps and picnic sites(Babalala) for me. It is glad to know that this tradition is still being followed by people and I will continue the lagacy when for the first time I will be driving through the gates at Punda in JUNE and daddy next to me.

I think we all have special bond in SANPARKS that we actually stop and chat, I cant imagine that happening on the N1

Good to see you will be carrying on the tradition kallis1786.

Must say we are getting lots of practice on the Estate where we now live, as everyone waves or lifts a finger as you pass each other. :D

Yup, two fingers off the top of the wheel and a lazy facial expression that says 'sup

We do! All the time :-) To be honest - I probably often go overboard! Big smiles and big waves. Call me a softie, but I really feel like everyone in the Kruger shares a special connection during that time. There's something very mystical about that park of ours!

All the best,
Jacqui

I too am a waver and like to see the expressions on the faces on some of the persons.

Will also stop a vehicle, if they want to be stopped, and tell them of a special sighting and hope some one will do the same for us.

:D :D , we also always wave and are very happy to stop other vehicles to share our sightings, our last trip in July 2012 we were met with lots of blank stares but that makes us (all 3) more than willing to share our joy and love of the Kruger, not very far till our December trip :D :)

Modern times allow humans to communicate increasingly in a virtual manner. I was surprised this past July how many Kruger visitors still greet fellow visitors by raising the hand or fingers - mostly friendly faces by far. Never once saw a middle finger aimed at me. I hope Kruger visitors will keep on raising the finger to greet each other.

I normally drive with the arm half out the window (yes my one arm has a darker tan at the end of the holiday) and wave if that doesn't get reaction the troup of "monkeys" (my littleones) waving in the back normally does. Especially from "grannys" you can just see their faces light up.

I also make a point of it to inform on coming cars of anything they might need to know eg elephants close to the road ect.

Actually had a nice experience in Mapungubwe in July were I waved down a car coming from the front to let them know there are ellies next to the road behind the next bend they might have moved into the road. And had a German gentleman tell me "You are wearing a very nice jacket" (one of those german army jackets "I was issued with one of them in (I think he said '52 might be wrong) " in a heavy german accent. Still brings a smile to my face.
