I also saw my dad doing it and kept it going .
We noticed that in the north almost every car waves or rises a finger. But the south (Tshokwane and lower) it is not as common.

I have a similar policy. I don't always wave, but often if the car has windows open and is driving slow I will.

Yup, it's one of the many traditions that I inherited from my father. Can't help greeting passing visitors, and (ashamedly) get rather irritated when I get no response, but it's such a pleasure when someone greets you first. :D

When I used to visit the Park as a child, it didn't go unnoticed that whenever an approaching car passed us, the driver of that car and my dad in our car would exchange a wave, nod or raised finger off the top of the steering wheel.

I have kept the tradition alive, but my partner laughs at me for doing it, especially when you get nothing but a blank stare in return (which happens at least half the time!)

Who else raises a finger or two at every approaching car? Am I a dying breed?

Hi there I was also raised like that, but sadly I see that this is fading very fast..... so sad !!!!!!!!!

Hopefully this Kruger custom will continue in the future as Kruger is a place where people should take it slow and be friendly towards each other

It's hereditary I think. I caught the bug from my dad and it's still strong in our family. But I agree that it seems to be dying out slowly amongst the new generations.

I remember we also used to flash our lights at oncoming caravanners. I don't have a van anymore so I'm not sure if this is also carrying on. :hmz:

It is good to greet :yaya: your fellow friendly Kruger drivers and visitors in Kruger who:

• Do not drive and worm themselves in front of you when there is an interesting sighting
• Show you the good sightings that they see
• Are clearly interested in the nature and their surroundings
• Do not S-P-E-E-D
Share the road with others

I hope they - the 8) :) ones will get more and more and the :eviltreath:  less aand less on the Kruger roads.

Many happy Kruger greetings to all :D

Just come back from a weekend in the Kruger. Greeted plenty people driving by. Very little in return, but that is just their problem if they don't want to greet. I also take note of the car registration and check the reaction to a wave , after this weekend , I can safely say that FS (Free State) people are the most likely to greet back   . And the worst----------Try it for yourselves :hmz:
Well done all of you from the Free State
and no, I am not from the Free State

Well done Free Staters 8) And I always thought the Gautengers are most friendly. I sometimes struggle to get even a little finger raised from those with CA number plates :hmz:
