Twigga, welcome to the forum.

Please note the health warning.

Most preplies you get are going to be subjective so let me dispense with my subjective opinion.

Close to Skukza is MAtsekenyani which also has a spectacular view of the park but that is also in the south.

The north (I think is more flat so lookout points are not as numerous. I love the view point close to Letaba. It overlooks the Engelhard dam from a disatnce and is well worth a visit.

Depending on how far north you are going, the view from the old stone settlement close to Pafuri also has a great view.

The view from Olifants over the river is really good as is the view from N'Wanetsi. Nwamanzi, close to Olifants several 100 meteres from the Olifants turnoff on the Satara / Olifants tar road is also worthy of visitng. Be very careful of the thieveing monkeys here and make sure you close your car windows to keep them out when you get there.

So how far north are you going?

Tshanga lookout is worth a visit at end of red rocks route ( S52 dirt road ) , south west of shingwedzi, just before Bateleur bushveld camp.

Tshanga! Beyond a shadow of doubt.

And if you are in doubt, check it's topic and that of the R52 (Red rocks loop) which you'll be travelling to get to it.

Not really a view point, but what's that lovely picnic spot between Letaba and Shingwedzi on the one gravel road - isn't it "Mooi-something" not "Mooiplaas" though I don't think?? There is the thatched area right on the river-bed, no fences and we have seen awesome sightings of Big Tuskers there. Very secluded and chilled.

Of course agree too that the view from Olifants is special as is the one from Nwanetsi and then who coould neglect to mention Crooks Corner (also not elevated) at Pafuri. Oh what the .... - the whole of Kruger is one special viewpoint!! :D

In the North, Tshanga and Red Rocks are a MUST!
Besides the lookout at Olifants camp and N'wamanzi, the Olifants Lookout on the dirt road north of Oifants (S44) is also a MUST!
Enjoy your trip !

Nkumbe - have seen quite a lot from there, though not on recent trips. Lovely wide-open grassland that seems to stretch forever.

Mlondozi - view from the picnic site is fantastic. On one occasion we saw elephant, rhino, buffalo and lion at the same time.

Olifants - either from the lookout at the camp itself, or from the lookout point on the S44. Wonderful view of the river and the mountains - elephants can be a bonus.

Crooks' corner - you can see 3 countries at once and hundreds of crocs!!

Though, as someone else has said, the whole park is a "viewpoint" in one way or another!

I agree with Tshanga, Redrocks, but there is another one not on the map, overlooking the Ngwenyeni Spruit that is brilliant. Few k's short of the Letaba River from Phalaborwa Gate way.

Tshanga for sure takes the cake. Nwanetsi if its quiet is great too and I have always had a soft spot for the Olifants lookout on the bend.

Definition of 'north'? To some it is north of the Sabie river.

add to previously mentioned,

1. Olifants
2. The view site at the Olifants turn off on the tar road.
3. Mantambeni hide north of Letaba
4. The view site on the Olifants river loop (north)
5. Grootvlei dam wall

There, somebody else can take over....

Rumuruti , do you know where one can dissappear to avoid the sights and the sounds of pseudo eco-tourists ?

If you are going to spend five nights in Shingwedzi then I would vote for a visit to Crooks' Corner - stunning scenery, lots of birds (and this in the middle of winter), only one other visitor, more crocodiles than I have ever seen in one place, and Pafuri picnic site is relatively nearby for tea afterwards. I will be up north in early April and will definitely be visiting Crooks' Corner for the birds and view.
