On ourl ast night drive which was just two of us we mentioned to the guide we were birders as well and Amos went of of his way to chat about birds and what can sometimes be seen on night drives; we stopped to admire two Spotted Thick-knees and he tried to get me close to the birds without distubing them in any way so I could get an image; I think if you are birding you should mention it to the guide as they sometimes find it a relief to talk to birders; found that a couple of times during informal chats to guides we talked to in the camps.

Regards/ Mike

Good day,
Athough this is not on a night drive or a formal "bird tour" - those of you who visited Pafuri Picnic area will know Frank. He knows the the birds in his specific area of the Park extremely well and will walk around with you in the area around the picnic site to find birds not always easily seen. He even directed us last week to a specific tree at Crooks Corner where we could found a Pels Fishing Owl. He will most of the times come to greet you upon arrival if you have a yellow ribbon on your car. Therefor I definitely agree that it will be nice to have a ranger nearby who have knowledge of birds in more areas of the Park and an extra bird hide in the South could be a huge bonus

A Ranger on a drive with visitors stopped next to us last year and told people that a common buzzard in a tree next to the road is a Wahlberg :D

Thanks Owl for the info :gflower:

Hi Crested Val,

I agree.

What we would especially like is the sunset and evening drives to specialise as although our birding knowlege is not bad and at day time sightings there is always time to ponder the bird book it is the chance to stop and lookat nightjars etc that would really excite us!

We also think someone taking bird walks around the camp would be nice.

Regards,

DASSIEDLEIGHT & Peregrine Falcon.
