Does anyone have any updates on rain in the central and northern park? Cannot wait for a long overdue visit in winter and just don't want my favorite place in the universe to be too dry (and I know winter is pretty dry).
Sounds like the south has gotten more than it needs.

We got back from Kruger on the 10th Jan, after spending the best time ever at Shingwedzi, Letaba and Tamboti. The park had a lot of rain in December, not sure what it has done since the 10th though. It is looking 'like a park' with everything sooo green and even the Shingwedzi River had water, Red Rocks too.

Have a look at some of the scenic shots on my TR below and it will give you an idea.

Enjoy your' long overdue' trip, I am

We entered the park on 21 December, through the Phalaborwa gate, it was boiling hot, we stayed at/in Shingwedzi for 2 nights, boy, was it hot??!!!!, we moved on to Letaba where it was even hotter, we watched storm clouds gather for 3 days in a row but nothing would happen, on day 4, we were in the pool at 7am, it was so hot already, we saw storm clouds gathering, they disappeared, only to regroup later, there was a loud of thunder and of course lightening, we were in our safari tent, the wind was blowing and then all of a sudden it started raining, huge drops fell at first then they became smaller and more, it rained for a few hours, it was awesome, the temp in our car dropped by 17 degrees, that was the beginning of the rain, it did rain more during our trip but it was fine, soaking rain, which was always very welcome

Rain in Kruger

Unread postby shrew » Sat Jun 06, 2015 7:37 am

Hi all

We are going to be in the Kruger Park in a months time (Going North)
I was wondering if anyone knows if there has been rain up north in the last few months or are all the river beds and waterholes dry.

Thank you

It is very dry all over. The rivers are are not full...just a small trickle. Some of the water holes are dry. Yet we have seen some of the smaller rivers have some water in. But still a great place to be :D

Oumie, We spent a month in Kruger - all of May. It was our 8th visit to the Park as we go every May from Australia. We have never seen the Park so dry, yet the vegetation was quite high. We had a huge thunderstorm with an enormous amount of lightning and thunder at Lower Sabie on the night of 10 May 2015. It poured with rain and the waterholes filled up somewhat and the effects of the storm went for quite a way up north. Satara upwards was dry so the rain didn't reach there. Nsemani Dam was very low and Girivana was dry mud although the troughs had water. Mopane was drier than normal but there was decent water in the rivers.
