Hi all,

I'm pleased to announce that in 7 days, 21 hours,08 minutes and 40 seconds Ill be off to Kruger.

But not like my previous trips that were 4 days, this one is going to be 18!!!

It's going to be a trip of a life time!

I have never been there for more than 6 days.

What's it like to go for so long?
How long have you been there for?

We had always consoled ourselves as we were leaving the park after one of our usual trips that one day when we retired we would come back for a long stay and before we knew it the day arrived, so in 2009 our dream trip of 31 days had become a reality!
Was it long enough? we thought it might be, but the leaving was just as hard if not more so!

We did 6 weeks in the park in 2010. We covered the entire park (north to south) and spent the time camping. It was definitely not long enough

The longest was 9 days and the shortest one minute.

How did you manage one Minute? My longest is 2 weeks but my dream is to spend a whole month - preferably November - very few people, birds are coming back and lot of babies arriving - maybe one day

Well, I regularly go to a private reserve on the western boundary of Kruger, but which is part of the greater Kruger Area. All the fences have been removed and one big fence post is all that remains. So whenever I visit the reserve, I walk a meter or so into Kruger territory and stand there for a minute just to say to the folks at home that I have also visited Kruger. The lookout point where we normally enter Kruger, gives you wonderful views of the unspoilt area south of the Olifants river. On a clear day the Olifants is visible in the distance. I hope this explains my one minute of magic.

My previous visit was 9 days,but in 22 days I will be back in the Kruger to double that. 18 days in the Kruger. I just cant wait.

What did you see that was amazing?

Just being in Kruger is amazing Ossie That trip was in September/October. I'll have to check back through my trip report (yip, I do try do them from time to time ). The following year, we went for a three week trip through the park - during November, and that was also amazing. I love the little impie babies and the woodies (woodland kingfishers).

Rooies, why do you turn back and not just keep on walking into Kruger

We most definitely didn't get bored, we just lost ourselves in the tranquility, never read a single newspaper or listened to the radio once the entire time.
It was if the outside world ceased to exist, in fact the hardest part was trying to remember what day of the week it was as they just all blended into each other and I had to keep our reservation paper handy all the time otherwise I think we might have missed the move to the next camp!
We found that we relaxed more as that urge to be out on the road all the time is less, we did drives when we felt like it at various times of the day, relaxed a lot more back at camp.
It is difficult to say what our best sighting was, they were just all amazing, from the tiniest little insect, pretty flower, all of it.
You do have the time to stop more and longer at the little things, take longer to identify that bird, sit at waterholes, in hides etc which is what we did a lot of.

92 Days without exiting..

Three weeks last December was my longest. What we do though is try and get to Kruger at least every six weeks for a weekend. Must say that this year I was fortunate to do three ten day trips and will be there for another ten days in December.

About the same for me. I think that is pretty much it for us folks that need to make the trek from Cape Town (leave on the first Friday/Saturday back on the Sunday a fortnight later). I must say, even as a self-confessed Kruger addict I cannot see myself in the park for much longer than about ten days at a time.
We (myself and my SO) regularly exercise (mostly cycling), and while a break is good thing, more than 10 - 14 days off the bike becomes a problem.
And no I will not jog/run in the camps.
