Could you tell us more about this interacting? What could have been the reason? What was the result? Very, very interesting sighting

we came in at Malalane gate at ab 07:00 drove down the road for ab 45 min. we saw two wild dog on the road and on our right hand side were 3 hyenas. 2 went running off into the bush while the one stayed behind. personly i tink the wild dog were jst trying to aggravate the hyena for food not quite sure, the wild dog also pulled off our number plate and bit the car behind us tires so i think they were just in a boystrous mood that day. funny enough the dog was not very scared of the hyena but the hyena was very weary of the dog. ther are some other opions of other fourm members on my topic, 'back from a wonderful trip' go check it out

This pack was our first real spotting of Wild Dogs in the KNP in November 2008. The photo was taken at the crossing of the Biyamiti river on the S25 Crocodile River Road, near the junction with the S139 for Biyamiti Bush Camp.

We saw doggies last 3 trips. A pack on the road from Phalaborwa gate to Mooiplaas picnic spot just before Letaba River lookout (H14), which were during a light drizzle. We followed them for about 5 minutes, next moment they started running. Not even a kilometer further we got impalas in the road and they started chasing. It was impala chaos!! this was in 2008, but we saw what I presume is the same pack in 2007 between Letaba and Mooiplaas on H1-5, just before Giriyonda turnoff, we also followed them for long time before they started to trot of into the bush. And then we had a real surprise in 2005, 3 dogs just before Red Rocks on the way from Shingwedzi to Red Rocks lookout.

Tracytas - Amazing pic of the WD and hyena...ive only ever seen them fighting!
WildIMage nice pic as well!

Put some pics up in April of my sighting in that month of the pack that is found around the vicinity of Orpen. They made two kills in this hunt that was visible from the road - amazing stuff but felt sorry for the 1 impala especially!

Pack notices impala....

Image

The chase...

Image

IN the confusion 4x4 takes out this still alive impala which get put out of its misery by the pack...

Image

Then the feeding frenzy...

Image

Oh and this was in the greater KNP a while back where the 6 month old pups were left to dispatch this duiker...poor guy! :(

:D

Saw wild dog twice in our visit in August. One sighting at the S100 turnoff near Satara and the second a few days later about 5km north of the Baobab tree turnoff.

Second sighting very upsetting as the one dog had a very bad wound from a snare round its neck. Reported to Camp manager at Satara and to Ranger at Tshokwane. Don't know if it was found and treated

Have been visiting the park since 1969 and saw dogs on our first trip then nothing until 1999. Since then and up until 2008 we have seen them twice on each trip. On arrival and depature either at Orpen Gate or Malelane Gate but Murphys law has it that we are pulling the caravan.

How is it that you always have the caravan or trailer with your best sightings

Maybe we should arrive one day earlier and depart one day later then no caravan in tow

Can anybody please assist me? I have been going to the Kruger for 25 years and have only seen Wild Dogs 3 times. Go there yearly but never seem to find them. Going again this december and staying in the southern half hopefully to see some dogs. Any assistance of recent spottings and what roads will give us best chance of finding them will be appreciated. Any pics please of these lovely creatures...

I would say your best bet is around berg-en-dal as well as croc bridge.

We saw 2 dogs at the marula water hole near BnD in september.Martie saw dogs on the S25 I think as did the girl in the AAA challenge. On the doispane road near Skukuza they are often seen and I think the S64 :hmz: the road that links Napi road with the doispane road.(Dont have my map now)

Hey ...

Your best bet is the Pretoriuskop - Skukuza road early in the morning OR search the park because they are just about everywhere because of there homeranges being HUGE.
