Every now and then in life you just KNOW.

When I fly to Joburg to pick up my Dad to go to Kruger annually, we drive from about midnight from Benoni, to be at Orpen when the gates open.

On Friday I heard this song on the radio, and apart from a line or 2 with dodgy connotations I KNEW.

This is my Kruger song: I drove all night to get to you, by Celine Dion

But its time to name the favourite song.

Different parts of Kruger has different music - for me (mostly classical). But one that is more popular and sticks in my mind is Johnn Clegg's "Bless the rain in Africa".

Oh dear, now its stuck in my mind and is going stay there for a while and I don't even know the words.

Also Johnny Clegg "I'm dreaming of the spirit of the great heart, under African skies". Don't think that is the title but I'm sure one of you will know it?

Mine is 'Africa' by Toto. There was an advertisment for Castle Lager done to this tune which always brought tears to my eyes.

We are in our mid sixties and have found that older we get, the more adventurous we are - have progressed from caravanning via offroad trailer to rooftop tenting throughout Southern Africa.
We have managed to download the theme from the BBC series "New Tricks" as sung by Dennis Waterman and copied it to CD.
This is played every time we leave on a trip just to remind us that although we are "old and grey", we are still "OK".
(Our children do all the worrying, while our grandchildren love coming with us!)
So far this song has taken us to many SANParks destinations - favourites being KTP; Richtersveld, Mapungubwe and KNP.

I have a CD of african marambas once bought by friend in Kruger and left in my car, not my usual style of music but still in my car and usually played on the way from Zululand to Kruger!

Now when i go with my brothers, we play Tiesto's In Search Of Sunrise travelling to the park

I must agree with "Hemingway' by Peter Sarstedt, with its rousing chorus of "Africa, Africa, Birthplace of Man....".
Usually I turn everything off when I'm in Kruger, but sometimes those long drives warrant a bit of music...
My wife bought me a CD by Andrea Bocelli called Vivere (basically his Greatest Hits), and although I'm not a classical nut, his songs have something special about them....
Surprised no-one has mentioned "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"....
Years ago a local group called Hawk did an album called African Day - and two tracks stand out.
One is a rendition (with African undertones) of Here Comes The Sun (originally by The Beatles).
The second is a 15-minute long track called African Day... quite a bit of it is spoken, with lines (not quite verbatim) like "S-curved, the bull raised his trunk, massive ears flapping..." Magic!!
