The golfclub in skukuza stocks them as well. I know they have them daily and the same woman that made them at nkuhlu makes them there

Will get my parents that are currently on Holiday at Sabie River lodge to visit the Golf Club tomorrow and get us some pies. I know where we will definitely stop on all future visits. :D

We get our meat from all over. It gets a bit tricky sometimes to source it at the right price. I paid up to R94 per kg once or twice, because that was the only meat my butcher could source- and it was fillet.
I have tried a few times to lure buffs into my yard, but the tricky part is the ranger stays not too far from me, and my kitchen is only so big :hmz:

Nothing comes from inside the park, mostly they come from the eastern cape area, and sometimes from Hoedspruit area

This reminds me of a little story.

Somewhere in England an entrepreneur was running a flourishing business selling very tasty rabbit pies.
One day a customer asked if the pies were pure rabbit flesh.
The entrepreneur replied that he supplements the rabbit with other flesh.
The customer asked with what flesh and the reply was a bit of horse meat.
The customer asked what ratio, upon which the pie seller replied 50/50.
The customer then asked where he gets all the rabbits to do a 50/50 supplement.
The seller replied that he hunts them in the bush, upon which the customer asked to see where they make the pies.
In te kitchen he saw one rabbit and a horse carcass being cut up and mixed, upon which the entrepreneur said to the customer “you see now – you thought I was not telling you the truth about the 50/50 supplement, see for yourself one rabbit one horse”.

Now it will be clearer to all why I enquired about where all the Buffalo meat is sourced.

Not necessarily the same here.

Thanks, Porridge! Really appreciate the offer but have a feeling that maybe nothing will be left by the time you get back from KNP

After reading about these pies we decided to make a day of it on our recent stay and drive from BnD to Skukuza Golf club to find these pies that are so loved.

Got to the golf club and spoke to 3 ladies in the kitchen and none knew what I was on about. One than changed her story and said that she knew the pie but was made with goulash now days but they still sold it as a buffalo pie. Hmmmm!

Unsure and with 2 hungry kids in tow I got "buffalo pie" and a chicken mushroom pie that had just come out the oven.

All I can say I 'bleeeeg' to the 'buffalo pie'. It was dry and tasteless and by far the worst pie I have ever eaten, even my son who eats anything refused to have a bite on seeing the insides of the pie.

Strangely enough the chicken pie was one of the best pie I have ever had and I highly recommend them. I suspect the buffalo pie had been standing for some time in the heater drawer to have dried out so much. Paid R17 each without chips or gravy just the pies themselves and we decided to eat them on route to Nkuhlu and found the spot to be lovely, really clean and neat with very polite staff but yes the shop is like any other shop with just the bare minimum.

What they did have however was a poster on the wall advertising 'Buffalo pie for R25' I asked if they had and was told they were out of stock and that they had no idea when they would get more. Met a tour driver there and he said he stops there daily with a group of tourist and 9/10 the pies are not available but he said they were very good and when they had he grabbed a few take away.

Note sure but we are back in Kruger in 1 month for 15 days and 8 of them are between LS and Skukuza, gonna be checking both shops daily for pies, I am determined, buffalo pie is on my 'Kruger Wishlist' now.

Encountered the same story at Nkulu. First day the very unhelpfull lady informed us that they forgot to order the pies. The next day the excuse was that they were still cooking the meat. As you mention, they still have the poster advertising the buffaloe pies, but alas, I am afraid they are gone forever.

Mmmm... Looks like a gap in the market. Real opportunity here. I am sorry you guys could not get pies, and the real one for that matter. Its a pity the management of the place does not realise the potential this product has

These pies are indeed famous; there is even a Pasty  Club for hungry supporters and it seems that new fans are arriving :) .

It seems that someone is missing out on a business opportunity here  as Wacktazz said above. In theory say a pie sells for R20 and you sell 150 pies a day - in a year you could earn R1, 095,000 before deducting overhead and input costs :hmz: .
