Bennie,

I must be a bit drowzzzzzy. I'm slow tonight, but at last I caught on.

You are attractive too - it is not only Mods that have that claim to fame.

It is always nice to interact with the "regulars" Do zoo voort Elzet

Btw if Elzet hold the record for the highest posting rate, then I am probably lowest. Only 900 after three years.

Im also a maximiser & ticker - Get the whole group up at sparrows to start driving as soon as the gates open - Stop to view every bird - LBJ or not, Stop at every animal - Im always convinced something is stalking every impala in the bush and after long drives in the park doing every loop and stopping at every waterhole I get back to camp and walk the fence loking for birds & animals until night falls and then I walk the circles looking for the little Scops owl calling away and chilling on the fence hoping to see a hyanea!

I love it! Cant wait for my next trip!!!

Thanks for the kind remarks via PMs. Don't blame you for not wanting to associate with me in public.

Ndloti, this El Paco reads a quarter and 3/4 of your posts too and find it very interesting indeed. See you soon. You better be nice to me, I'll soon be holding on to your 40 pasties. Does the word ransom come to mind?

Rooies, it is not quantity that matters, but quality.

Oom Theuns, you are excellent in more than one way. Our dishes and washing have never looked this great. BTW, give my regards to your SO. Me thinks she is a super lady.

Team Green, welcome to the Forum. May you spend maximum quality time here. I'm a maximiser only - with the Oom there is no time for ticks. 'Can we go?'. 'When we come back they/it will still be here'. 'Have you seen enough?' :wall: :wall:

According to the two categories described in the very first post on page one by Tumble Weed I am definitely a Spaceman “staring of into the distance at nothing in particular”

If you plan lists and routes beforehand, get up early and see the good stuff, including new birds, :cam: see a lot of animal interaction, go on night rides, walk the camps looking for birds, and flop into bed exhausted just to do it all again tomorrow, then you are a maximizer like me, who gets value for the holiday and goes home for a rest.

Let the slobs, sorry spacemen, call us tickers if they like, while showing their videos of the kids in the pool!

That's us BB!! I do the ticking thing but normally at night or sometimes only when we get back home. I don't even sleep properly in Kruger - I wake up constantly during the night to check the time, 'cos I'm so excited to get out there again!!

When you head to the park, what is your aim?

Are you armed with checklists, pda's etc. and tick off every bird you see? Do you have a count of how many birds you've seen during the day, how many mammals etc. Are you obsessive about identifying the bird in the bush twenty yards off the road? Does it gnaw away at you if the guy next door gets more ticks than you? Generally these folk are highly alert. You can identify them by the lunge for the binoculars if there is a slight movement in a bush. There is always a checklist and guide book close at hand.

OR,

Do you take a drive without an aim, stop and enjoy the surroundings. You don't get concerned if you cannot identify the LBJ that just flitted from beneath that bush. You enjoy watching the sun set, and don't care that you did not see a lion that day. To you, it's just about being away from it all and enjoying the bush.
These folk are normally identified by the spaced out look they have. You'll see them parked next to the road, staring off into the distance at nothing in particular. They are content to just sit and watch the world go by.
So which one are you?

Me, definitely a 'spaceman'(but a reformed ticker)

I think the original gist of the title has been somewhat lost over 8 pages,
as I don't think Tumbleweed was referring to how much time is spent in or out of camps but what you actually do on the drives. Keep notes or stare into space! :D
