Saw a whopping herd of about 1200 in November, on the S36 at Shimangwaneni dam.

My experience is there are now more Buffalo in KRUGER and also more large herds.
We have recently found very large herds at Jones Dam, Lugmag Dam, Gudzani area, Rhidondo Dam area as well as the Shimiriri area.
Maybe just our luck. :)

They are increasing Brendon.
Last August, as Sprock said, we have seen large, very large, herds roaming the Mopanie veld between Phalaborwa and Letaba.

Also remember that big herds are not stable, they often split up and re-form. It depends a lot on the available grazing.

There is a herd in excess of 1000 around Shipandane hide in the Mopani Camp area and another just north of the Nyalaland trail camp adjacent the Levubu River...In the old days when we used to stay in the quiet area of Lower sabie ...there was a Huge herd near the camp...lots of people were late every night!!...One day I stayed in Biyamiti Camp while my husband and boys went out. A herd came down to the river to drink in front of the hide and kept coming for 20 minutes...well over 1000

In Augus 2009 we came from Letaba and around 4.30 we came to the dam just outside Letaba and we came to a dead stop for more than half an hour just sitting there waiting for a big herd to cross. They went down to the dam to get a drink.

We saw a herd of at least 400 near Orpen Rocks in September. All of the mooing reminded me of being on a dairy farm.
