Being a congenital carnivore, a week or so of braaing every night is not a problem. If there are any Durbanites on the forum, I would suggest the following :-
Dirk's Davenport Butchery...........Curry/Chutney sosaties
and Lamb loin chops
As a Durbanite - I would also recommend Hennie's Butchery in Queen Mary Ave - everything they sell is awesome :)

MMMMM Binkieloo and dog, I used to live in the Glenwood area in the mid 90's and I totally agree!

Scouter - I feel very  that I haven't got round to baking the bread yet - time tripped me up. Will give feedback as soon as I have...

Hi Tracylee

No problem - I have been rather scarce on the forum as of late - but holding thumbs it'll turn out well - nothing worse than passing on a recipe that works fantastically for you and it bombs with the other person trying it

Hey all :D

I was wondering if you guys could help me!! the S.O and i have officialy booked the longest holiday for us in the KNP EVER!!!! 2 weeks in the knp i just cant wait..

but we had a very daunting realisation that as much as we love our braais in the knp 14 braais just wouldnt be plausable i think we would have a meat overload.. I wanted to find out what you guys would replace braais with when going for a long time.

We are camping for a few days during those 2 weeks, we dont have one of those electric coolerboxes any ideas on how too keep food cold while we are without a freezer, we have set it up that we camp for two days and then have accomidation for a day that has a freezer, but during those two days before we worried about keeping our food cold does anyone have any ideas

thanks all!!!!

In Kruger, we have no alternatives for braais... Vacuum pack all your meats and buy ice to fill your ice box. We camped for 12 nights in 2001 when we were young and had lots of time and everything kept very well.

Alternatives are for instance pastas and such. That works like a charm, especially with the more or less complete packages you can buy now.

A good soup with bread (and a side salad?) is great on hot days.

Rice is versatile, you can make so much with it that there should always be something you like. And you always have rice with you, just raid the photography beanbag. (Another reason to buy Tastic for your beanbag. ;) )

When in Letaba you could pop out of Phalaborwa gate and replenish your wet rations at Spar. :hmz:

Tracy - the link Elsa gave you has some great ideas for alternative meals.

Regarding the non-freezer situation - we have used two different methods for keeping meat edible (These methods were used in Botswana and Namibia in the height of summer for seven nights camping and canoeing of the orange river)
Dry ice and wrapping of vacuum packed meat in layers of newspaper in the cooler box
the second method we used (depending how big the cooler box is) - freezing one or more five litre bottles of water (make sure that are frozen solid) and using them instead of ice-packs and vacuum packed meat wrapped in newspaper. The added advantage is we always had some ice water to drink as well.

Great tips Moggiedog.

Also make sure that all the refreshments that can be frozen are frozen before you put them in the cooler box.
For insulation you can use that bubble plastic that the use for wrapping breakable objects. Works wonders.
