Waking up on a nice winter's day in the park? There's only one meal to be had. A nice warm cup of tomatoe soup and some fresh bread.

If you buying from the canteens? Pie, chips and gravy (Specially the wild game pies)!

I love my Ouma rusks with my coffee in the morning which I take with me in the car. Bwana always teases me because I always need to eat something! My ultimate favourite, food aside, was a bottle of Amarula with ice. Packed on a couple of kilos with all that cream!

We sing "Dipping Grannies, dipping grannies". It hasn't got the same ring, but its still damn funny.

I agree - we always take the buttermilk Ouma's. I didn't used to like the sliced variety, but they seem to have changed them now and they all have the soft crusty bit on top *yum*

Have you seen at Lower Sabie they sometimes sell Amarula from the icecream freezer? That really is great! I keep a bottle in my freezer at home now  (not that I can touch it again till May when the little one arrives...)

Save that bottle ... when you come to visit the knp again, you have 2 things to celebrate.

The little one and the fact that you're in the KNP.

May, that's not too far off.

Come to think of it - OUMA rusks and coffee made me see the only Scrub Hare I've seen there thus far. :) We usually get up an hour and a half before gates open. Any of you ever experienced how quiet and peaceful it's then? We walk to the Kitchen Block, get hot water etc. At Punda Maria a Scrub Hare scared us to death almost on our way back to the tent.

OUMA rusks for me too (buttermilk or musli). Image
Unfortunately, we don't get them here.

We have several 'South African' stores here in the UK from which we can not only buy Ouma rusks but also Miele porridge (Yummy!), different varieties of biltong, sosaties, Boerewors etc....

However, my absolute favourite food when in the bush is a brunch of eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes and whatever else is on offer - with toast or bread rolls, cooked with a good sprinkling of spices (aromat?) on the braai at a picnic stop after being on the road for a few hours, and finished off with a cup of strong tea.... Heaven!

GP, that's the best time of the day in the park! So quiet and peaceful.

I usually try to be as quiet as possible. I feel guilty when I start the car to leave and the sun is not up yet, disturbing the others who still sleep.
