Our actual arrival day in KTP was a dull rainy day.
First I had to learn about these amazing social birds and the problem they give ESKOM
Image
Then I had to get through this distance and it was only 09:00 what a long journey ( next time it will be shorter!!)
Image
Dull day - not for the WarthogB - quick unpack and off for a short drive only to find this hyena carrying a large bone about 2KM outside the Twee Riviern camp gate
Image
This scared the WarthogB and just looking and thinking about it makes me retire to build up strenght again !!!!

After quiet a wet night we left our little "hut" at Twee Rivieren
Image
and moved to our nect camp as this was my first time in KTP I wanted to see as much as possible. In hindsight a possible mistake but I wanted to see all.
To the two angels that called me some unprintable names I will just say - you were right should not have given up a certain camp - BUT there will be a bext time
out journey to the next camp

and a long sitting to watch this little fellow scampering over the sand

Weatherwise, the mornings were now becoming colder but not sufficient enough to prevent me wearing shorts during the day but last night I needed to put on longs while braaing on the deck and having 4 spotted hyenas walk past us and under our braai deck.
Next morning up early a quick shower, a shave in our fancy basin
Image
make coffe and off towards Khalahari Tented Camp1

Note the Gemsbok fancy horn style on the tips??

After a braai, an uneventful night and a good sleep up early once again as it is a long trip to Nossob.
The mornings are now colder and hovering around 2 deg celcius but again only shorts on.and while waiting at the gate for my permit a co-camper asks me to stop upsetting his Itallian guests ?? :o  :? after he saw my expression he quickly laughed and added that the Itallians wanted to know what I was going to wear in summer - "NOTHING" , tell them
Permit got and off we go for a breakfast at Kamqua
Image

and over the upper dune road
Image

until we meet Caracal on the Nossob road who asks if I have seen the lions :o caracal's So gets me to turn around and not 150m away there they are - I had missed them - with a saloon car and the high grass was not easy
Image

Image

And then onto Nossab camp for a two day rest.

On my way to Nossob I passed this fellow and it reminded me of my Jack Russel back home. I wanted to get out and play with this lovely animal
Image
Two days at Nossob and hearing the lions every night but no luck to see them because this is what we were up against with a saloon car
Image
However this made up for no predators
Image

Image
Tomorrow we go home and wrap up the report so a final look up north
Image

@ dreamer - please tell me you are happy :) or else ????

Right home we go, road between Kij Kij and Samevloeing is closed, road from Nossob to TR appears to be terrible and to go lower dune road is 30 Km longer than via upper dune road, what do I do?? :hmz: And it is 199 KM to do ,do we have enough time :hmz: SO no help there.
Start exactly 07:30 reach Dikbaardkolk for a break
Image
Image
Decision time :D ok lower dune road it is
And guess what :hmz: between Jan se draai and Kamelbrak this black and gray creature crosses the road – camera on back seat  but even if it had been around my neck the creature was across the road and into the long grass ------ a Honeybadger
Another stop (pit) at Melkvlei
Image
Image

and then marvel at how close the imaginary borderline is for Botswana
Image
Over the lower dune road ,last lap to TR and record the signpost for those that have never been to KTP
Image
the last bird to see
Image

and into TR for a lovely braai with the Trailer Trash and Tent Trash  as at 07:30 tomorrow with temperature down to –3C and a pair of longs on we head back home with me planning my next visit

To eventually finish this TR and say thanks to one and all for reading and your kind words and encouragement to do the TR but mostly to Caracal for the persistance to get the TR out of me :D , I would like to say to all new forumites that will visit and maybe to some of the experienced KTP visitors get yourself the Peter Derichs Guide Book.
It is well compiled and gives the GPS co-ords of every waterhole as well as camps. Very useful to estimate travelling time back to camp in the afternoons.
It is laid out for the route you follow and for each waterhole gives a brief either name translation, date hole was completed and sometimes how it came about.
The shallowest hole is 30m and the deepest 115m.
Most seemed to be drilled in the 1900 and the holes are quite multi national ,as an example
Auchterlonie - is old Irish, - a summit joy/glade/area ,Montrose Old Irish for a mossy wood and Mariesegat was complted by Marie because her husband was too slow , there also Welsh origins some German, Afrikaans and Khoekhoen.
The book also gives some excelent descriptions of trees and plants and bushes.
Enjoy your next visit :D

BB I was not going to post my final posting but now I am so :D I did as it is a pleasure to see the old expeienced KTP's challenging the yougnsters
it will be so much more interesting to let you explain, translate and tell us the reasons theat the names were changed for the 13th and 14th from "Grootskrij" and "Kleinskrij" - I am only a junior and would hate to give out incorrect and misleading information.
Please tell us about the bland names :)
