Katydownunder, SO and I met on Monday and talked about possibilities for an Euro Meet in Germany this year.

Our proposal is
date: Saturday, 21.06.2008 at Cologne ( http://www.koeln.de/en/index.html )
possible agenda:
1. visit of the cathedral ( http://www.koeln.de/en/tourism/sightsee ... edral.html )
2. walk through the zoo ( http://www.zoo-koeln.de/index.php?id=167 )
3. have an informal dinner at one of Colognes famous "Brauhaus" ( http://www.koeln.de/en/whatson/koelsch.html )
4. if there is time left in between: for the shopping addicts a visit to the Globetrotter store ( http://www.globetrotter.de/de/filialen/koeln/index.php )

The main problem is reservation of hotels. I phoned several yesterday, the youth hostels are already nearly fully booked (they have some doubles left, but not enough for all of us...) and they will not take a reservation without secure booking and advanced payment. So I think the best would be that everybody does his own booking via HRS ( http://www.hrs.de/ ) (and search for an accommodation close to the main station...)

So, anybody interested in another Euro Meet this year??

btw and going a bit off topic:
German beer is highly diverse and an important part of Germany's culture. There are around 1,300 breweries in Germany. The German beer market is sheltered from the rest of the world beer market by the German brewers' adherence to the Bavarian Reinheitsgebot (purity requirement) dating from 1516, according to which the only allowed ingredients of beer are water, hops and barley-malt. Because of this law beers from Germany have a reputation for high quality. There is a variety of different types of German beer, such as Kölsch, a pale, light-bodied, beer which can only legally be brewed in the Cologne region.

On the other hand in Belgium there are approximately 125 breweries in the country, producing about 500 standard beers. Which is quite a number for such a small country.

When trying to find something about dutch beer I can only quote Wikipedia: Maybe that is the reason for only four main brewery companies in the Netherlands...
