A lot of history questions were asked in the "Kruger camps and places' quiz. So why not start a history quiz?

Who was Nellmapius and what was his contribution to Kruger?

He constructed the Nellmapius Road, between Mac-Mac and the goldfields, crossing the Crocodile River near Hectorspruit to Matalha Poort in Mozambique. :hmz:

He was a close friend of President Paul Kruger and donated money to the Kruger Park :hmz: ?

He got 4 farms after he built the road mentioned above... did he donate these 4 farms to Kruger? I don't know where these farms were though

He was contracted to build a better route to Delagoa Bay towards the end of the nineteenth century, and he chose a route over the Crocodile River just south of Biyamiti Bushveld Camp

He donated the land to the Parsons Nature Reserve on the northern banks of the Olifants River which is part of the Balule Nature Reserve within the Greater Kruger National Park.

Apparently somewhere in Kruger is a plaque in his honor but I have not seen it yet.

Thanks Gerhard, but you made it too easy for the participants :D

But now, what did Nellmapius do after he left the the Lowveld? He did something which had a great affect on agriculture in SA.

You are one thirds there. What he did has got much to do with the present day Kruger and agriculture.

Yes and Arnold Theiler assisted him in 1891 in the groundwork for establishing good stock for his herds.

The Irene estate cultivated pears, apples, plums and peaches as well as roses and other plants. He also started a gunpowder factory :hmz:
