What animals' sounds consists of at least sixteen discrete calls, varying from long, low pitched growls to short, high-pitched squeaks and bird-like coos.

No, seriously, I've only heard them giggle when feeding and trying to get their own piece of meat. Or trying to chase another carnivore away so it may be to tell others to stay away?

Their laugh is used when being chased and is saying it wants to be left alone :hmz:

The “laughing/giggling” is actually a noise they make when they are excited or frightened or as a sound of frustration. When a hyena giggles, this actually means it is quite nervous about something or in aggression directed to another individual.
