Excellent Q, DP. :clap: It is true that the surface tension remains intact as the stone skips over it, but it will still pick up water molecules as it comes into contact with the water. So, myth.

Like OWN said the surface tension will remain intact for long enough to let the stone bounce. Since no rock is perfectly smooth it will break the surface as it skips and will become a wet stone....
