Bearcat - The Grumman F8F Bearcat (affectionately called "Bear") was an American single-engine naval fighter aircraft of the 1940s. It went on to serve into the mid-20th Century in the United States Navy and other air forces, and would be the company's final piston engined fighter aircraft.

Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird. Launched in 1965, it was for long the only plane to fly in the stratosphere, and the fastest around. Still going strong.

Bateleur 2000 - This aircraft was completed in 1993 and has been designated as a Bateleur 2000 named "Plumb Crazy". It crashed in 2007.

That reminds me - Bateleur is also the name of the 127mm MRL (Multiple Rocket Launcher) currently in use in the artillery. Two packs of 20 rockets each, mounted on a Samil 50 armoured truck chassis. Fun toys, MRLs...

Indeed! Great fun. It is also the name of a SA wine.



Another aircraft - Bear 360 - commonly referred to even in Russia by its NATO designation, 'Bear', the aircraft has four Kuznetsov NK-12 engines, each driving contra-rotating propellers.

Bantam B22J, it is a fixed wing microlight aircraft from New Zealand. There are close to 100 of them in South Africa and they are built in Nelspruit.

The Ford Bantam half-tonner bakkie/pickup as well.

And of course don't forget Batman's Batmobile...

And also the de Havilland BEAVER which saw both miliary and civilian use.

It was copied from a captured Russian MRL which we used to call the Stalin organ. Our version was then called the PW organ, named after a previous president, PW Botha aka Die groot Krokodil.

A copie from a Russian MRL to shoot a the "commies" named after PW the same way they named it after Stalin.
Just think about it for a moment.

Are we ready for a C, like in Cheetah strike aircraft that was used by the SA Air Force. A few adaptations was made to the French Mirage to suit our needs. We had to adapt because of all the sanctions at that stage against SA, because of the politics of the day. We could not get spares from France.
