Owls eyes are pear-shaped instead of round like ours. What we see is the small part of the eye, the biggest part at the back of the eye and has alot of room for special light-receiving rods in the retina which allows the owl to see well in low light conditions.

As a result of this shape, their eyes are fixed to the skull and cannot move. They compensate for this by having the ability to rotate their heads almost 360 degrees.

Males are usually slightly heavier than females and are more robustly built.

:hmz: Ok......The male and female are similar in size. One clear difference is the black vertical stripe between the buttocks. The male has a very narrow stripe about 2.5 cm wide and the female has a stripe about 5 to 7 cm wide.
