A Bateleur

Bateleur means "tight rope walker" in french which is where the name comes from due to the tilting flight which resembles a tight rope walker keeping their balance.
The juvenile can take up to 8 years to look like the adults, when young their tails are much longer and are often confused with other species in flight due to this. Each year when they moult their tails get shorter and shorter until they have the easily identifiable very short tail and eventually end up with the magnificent black and red feathers
