Thanks. We recently got back from kruger where my sister saw one trying to use a mug and teaspoon we'd left outside

Ok, what special mechanism do African Hoopoes use to defend themselves?

It lies flat on the ground, spreads its wings and points it beak up to defend itself :hmz:

Welcome safari girl, you're correct  however I was referring to the gland  Philip, can you specify what this gland does to repel attackers?

Hi all :)

:| The young nesting birds use hissing sounds, poking upward with their bills, and striking with one wing in order to defend themselves from enemies. They also use very smelly secretions from body glands and sprayings of feces, solid body waste, to fend off attacks. To defend against predators, adults flatten themselves against the ground by spreading their wings and tails onto the ground, with their head raised backward and bill raised. This is what i got

 Well done Safari Gal

Hope it is ok if I pose a question.
Which carnivore and bird team up for preservation - other than the honey badger and the honeyguide?
