True or False: An alternative name for the African Buffalo shares its name with a massive epidemic that wiped out a large portion of the population of Europe during the 1300s?

Heksie and Phokojwe ... Phokojwe offered me an explanation, but Heksie answered first, so I'll give it to the first of you two to pose the next Q.

True or False

Bats always turn left when exiting a cave.

False...
They use soundwaves that is why it looks like they could turn left but a they can go any direction when exiting.

:) Agree with Heksie, False......A common myth is that bats always turn left when exiting caves. This is one of those fun "facts" that shows up in trivia books Web sites, but nobody seems to be certain where this batty story got started. Nothing in the literature of Chiropterology (the study of bats) seems to verify it.

This Q has been asked before and we actually had quite a laugh when we wondered what would happen if the myth was true and there actually was no left-turning exit from the cave or if there was a wall in the way. Would the bats then die from frenetically trying to fly left because they were unable to reprogramme themselves to go right? Of course not; which entirely disproves the statement. Definitely False.

Phokojwe, there is absolutely no reason that one cannot ask a Q that has been asked before. In any case, it's very difficult to keep track of everything that has been asked, and often it's great to reinforce a concept by asking something from several months back. So, no apology necessary - ask away. :D
